The students are in the 7th grade. The students are 11 boys and 9
girls. There are 70% Caucasian and 30% African American.
Students will be knowledgeable in Puritanism and the
events of the Salem Witch Trials by the end of the week
with 85% accuracy. This will be judged by a small quiz at
the end of the week.
Day one: What is Puritanism?
Ask students what they already know about Puritanism
Give a brief lesson on beliefs of Puritans and why they
came to the New World
Day two: Overview of the witch
Day three: Character profiles
Discuss the main characters in the events.
Journal entry: Pretend you are one of the people from the
witch trials and describe the events going on from your
Write a short paper on what you think the cause of all of
the “witch craft” was. Was it just good acting or something

material on Puritans and the witch trials.
