    • Paul Mitchell Hair Care Systems The company, Paul Mitchell Hair Care Systems owes its start to Cyril Thomson Mitchell, born January 27, 1936 in Scotland.
    • Paul Mitchell Hair Care – Early Days The young Cyril Thomson Mitchell knew early in life that he wanted to work with hair. The son of a hair stylist mother, he enrolled in beauty school when he was just 16 years old. He completed a five-year apprenticeship and began to work at various hair salons.
    • Vidal Sassoon salons As his career progressed, Paul Mitchell changed his name and began entering multiple hair styling competitions – many of which he won. In the 1960s, he joined Vidal Sassoon salons and fast became one of London's best known and most desired hair stylists. Mitchell left London in the 1960s and went on to open several salons in the United States.
    • Forming The Paul Mitchell Hair Care Business In 1980, with business partner John Paul DeJoria, Mitchell founded the John Paul Mitchell Systems, with a goal of marketing professional hair care products through professional hair care salons. Paul Mitchell's first commercial product in the Paul Mitchell hair care line was hair sculpting lotion.
    • Conducting free product demonstrations In the early days, the partners traveled constantly, conducting free product demonstrations for salon owners to persuade them to purchase Paul Mitchell hair care products. They guaranteed that salon owners would sell all the Paul Mitchell products they bought. This novel marketing plan led to exponential growth and a network of salon owner customers built on a strong relationship with the owners of the Paul Mitchell hair care line.
    • Continuing The John Paul Mitchell Hair Care Business After founder Paul Mitchell's death in 1989, John Paul DeJoria continued the hair care business with a vengeance. Today, the company's sales are almost $900 million annually. The brand has grown to include side brands like Modern Elixirs, the Tea Tree Collection, Paul Mitchell LAB, and Paul Mitchell Professional Hair Color. Twenty-five U.S. distributors sell the products to nearly 90,000 salons and schools.
    • John Paul DeJoria John Paul DeJoria has so far resisted any and all offers to purchase the company.
    • Head For Change Paul Mitchell's pet charity is Head For Change, a program devoted to restoring the environment one drop of product at a time. The company has dedicated itself to the principles of clean water, healthy trees, and a clean earth. It encourages volunteerism and environmental awareness among its employees. In addition, Paul Mitchell has held "cut-a-thons," donated supplies, and provided volunteers to children's programs all around the world.
