  • Slide objective: HP gets the unique requirements and business lifecycles of midsize businessesThe midsize enterprise conference is such a great opportunity not only for HP to highlight what we’re doing and how we’re helping you do more with less, but to HEAR from you. Trust that we are listening, and this is what we’ve heard you tell us, which has directly influenced how we approach this segment and design our offerings to address your specific pain points.“My IT budgets are shrinking, but my user’s content keeps growing, and I need to upgrade my application base.” Your current business situation (still doing more with less): increasing competition , Merger and acquisition , Site consolidation , Business disruptions, Complexity, Budget cuts, Server sprawl, Data growthSpeaker’s note:In the face of increasing competition and economic downturn, many midsize businesses are experiencing significant changes. They are attempting to balance major budget cuts and the ability to gain competitiveness. Common events such as site consolidations and M&A’s often lead to consolidated branch offices where frontline employees are responsible for sales and customer services. These employees, who rely upon the consolidated infrastructure, must achieve higher levels of productivity,  and the IT staff, who manage the infrastructure, must reduce the operating costs with lower overhead and higher efficiency. HP’s designed its branch office consolidation solutions to address these concerns by removing remote management complexity, improving branch data protection  and supporting the increasing demand for data capacity in a cost-effective manner. Although many business risks exist,  IT does not have to be one of them. The current competitive environment leaves little room for operational disruptions that might cripple the processing of a sales order or a customer service request, or data losses or breaches that might lead to costly damage control.  HP’s designed its business risk mitigation solutions to diminish the risks of system downtime and data and network security so you can focus on moving things forward. These solutions were developed by leveraging the best-in-class technology across the broad HP portfolio and our deep partnerships with key ISV partners. One of the key enabling technologies is virtualization that addresses the issues of server sprawl and the associated increase in cost and complexity.  The HP Virtualization bundles, two of which are also the building blocks of the business risk mitigation solutions,  allow organizations to achieve the full potential of virtualization simply and affordably. Bundles range from entry configurations that deliver cost effective application high availability without external storage, to large metro clusters that keep applications online during site failures.
  • Virtualization is on the rise in mid market. According to AMI research, today only 19% of mid-size companies worldwide have deployed server virtualization with an additional 31% that plan to use it. But when asked about future plans, 73% of CIO’s and IT directors indicated that server virtualization would be a strategic investment area for their companies in 2010 and beyond, a number significantly higher than the previous year’s poll.Data from Garnter’s Mid-market CIO Forum re-inforces the trend and indicates that mid-market customer who do go down the virtualization path may even virtualize more aggressively than their enterprise counterparts. A poll from the forum indicated that as many as 25% of respondents wanted to virtualize as close to 100% of their server as possible.Again, the data seems clear… we will see more server virtualization in mid-sized businesses.
