The road to sustainability2004 NGOs and companies from the entire supply chain found The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)2008 The first RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil arrives on the market2012 Sustainable palm oil production reaches a record 6 million tonnes – 11% of global crude palm oil production2015 87 companies have so far pledged to source all of their palm oil consumption sustainably from this year on
  • 4. RSPO certified supply chainsSegregated (SG)Segregated supply chains keep sustainable and conventional palm oil basedmaterials separate at all times. An ”SG” designation or “Certified” label on aproduct guarantees that all the palm oil used is from an RSPO certifiedplantation.Mass Balance (MB)Mass balance supply chains mix sustainable and conventional palm oil basedmaterials. An ”MB” designation or “Mixed” label on a product guarantees thatan equivalent amount of palm oil from an RSPO-certified plantation has beenconsumed by the manufacturer.

Supply chain certificationFood manufacturers and ingredient suppliers must be certified and audited byan RSPO approved supply chain certification body in order to sell productswith RSPO backed claims for “Segregated”, “Mass Balance”, “Certified” or“Mixed”.DuPont has been RSPO certified since 2009.

Sustainable palm-based emulsifiers DuPont supplies a wide range of emulsifiers based on segregated and mass balance sustainable palm oil Our goal is to complete the conversion of our palm oil consumption to sustainable sources in 2015 In addition, we supply palm-free alternatives to all our palm-based emulsifiers
  • 7. Prepared for 2015 In 2012 the market for sustainable palm oil remains small DuPont has started work to secure sufficient sustainable raw materials to meet food industry demand in 2015 Supplier collaboration is securing the availability of palm oil derivatives from sustainable sources Our growing production of sustainable emulsifiers is an important step towards our customers’ and our own sustainability goals
