    • An analysis of using electronic dictionary verses paper dictionary in learning English vocabulary. (Experimental Study)
    • Research Questions
    • Is the memory of the learnt English vocabulary (on meaning and spelling) more long lasting for students using electronic dictionary?
    • Do students using electronic dictionary have more accurate pronunciation?
    • Participants
    • Local secondary 4 students who have basic knowledge on phonics
  • 2. Importance
    • Background: More and more students use electronic dictionary in learning vocabulary as they think they can learn more effectively and efficiently.
    • Undoubtedly students can save more time in using electronic dictionary, but many students and parents aren’t aware that with electronic dictionary there are some drawbacks hindering the effectiveness of learning vocabulary.
    • Paper dictionary may help students sustain the vocabulary learnt better.
    • Find out which kind of dictionary is a better suggestion for students in learning vocabulary.
  • 3. Data collection and Analysis
    • Two classes of secondary 4 students who have completed a basic phonic course will be chosen.
    • One class will use electronic dictionary in learning English vocabulary; the other class will use paper dictionary instead for one school term.
    • Before the experiment, students will do a pre-test to check their level of vocabulary on spelling and pronunciation.
    • At the end of the school term students will do a post-test (written and oral) to evaluate their achievement.

    • Data analysis tool: ANOVA
