Context for digital projects : UK Newspapers & British Library Collections <ul><ul><li>The newspaper collections in the British Library at Colindale, London, consist of: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>over 664,000 bound volumes and parcels, occupying some 32 kilometres (or 20 miles) of shelves; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>over 370,000 reels of microfilm, on 13 kilometres (or 8 miles) of shelf space; </li></ul></ul>

Aims of the C19 Century British Library Newspapers Project <ul><ul><li>Digitise up to 2 million pages of out of copyright newspapers </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>free access online to UK higher education community </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>sophisticated browsing and searching of the file via the web </li></ul></ul>
