    • Hotfix application
      Kentico CMS 5.5 R2
Difficult process since 5.5 R2 supports only web site
DLLs, libraries and database without problem
Hotfix must be applied locally not on Azure
      Problem:
Web site doesn‘t contain designer files
      Solutions:
Delete designer files of hotfixed files in solution tree (in Visual studio) and click convert to web application after hotfix is applied
Apply hotfix to web site and then convert to web application whole solution
    • Upgrade procedure and version 6.0
      Upgrade procedure
      Same as hotfix
      Kentico CMS 6.0
Native web application support – installation, hotfixes, upgrades (from 6.0 upper)
You have to still apply hotfixes and upgrades locally
    • File system in Azure environment
      Kentico CMS 5.5 R2
      Main storage is database
Modules Media libraries, smart search, web analytics store their data in blob storage via Azure drive
      Kentico CMS 6.0
      System.IO
      Kentico CMS
      business
      layer
      Azure blob API
      CMS.IO
      ...
    • Frequently asked questions
Q: How to use full text in Azure ?
A: Since SQL Azure doesn‘t support full text search only way is to use Kentico CMS smart search module.
    • Frequenty asked questions
Q: Why Azure support in 5.5 R2 is limited to only one instance?
A: Application in Windows Azure must be stateless. Web farm module in 5.5 R2 cannot be used for synchronizing of static objects. Also Azure drive works only with one instance for read/write in same time.
    • Frequently asked questions
Q: Why your Azure support has so many limitations?
A: Full support is planned to version 6.0, with 5.5 R2 you can try Azure platform, you can run there simpler sites. Also use most of the benefits of this platform with 5.5R2 including scalability.
    • Frequently asked questions
Q: What license do I need to run Kentico CMS on Azure?
A: Kentico CMS runs on Azure with any license including Free.
    • Frequently asked questions
Q: How can I get license for my staging hosted service?
A: You can ask for license to our support guys. When you will test different versions of your application we recommend you to use Upgrade for redeployments instead of deleting and creating new services (domain name stay the same in this case).
