What Is Social Media What Is Social Media Presentation Transcript

    • Social Media What actually is it...?
    • To put it simply, and to most...
      • Social media is Blogs
      • It is Wikis
      • It is Flickr
      • It is Facebook
      • It is Linkedin
      • It is RSS
      • It is Podcasts
    • But in reality...
      • Social Media really is a conversation powered by all of these.
      • It is not organised, nor controlled
      • But a vibrant, thrilling, emergent and fun conversation between a vast number of networks
      • It is a brand new way of understanding markets and not just another messaging channel
    • In the past...
      • It used to be all about televisions and newspapers etc. These making the consumers passive observers. Now, with online social media, consumers become an active participant.
    • Being active participants...
      • The consumers are able to vote on news stories, build your own social network or contribute your own videos. Top social media networks for doing this include Myspace, Facebook, Bebo also having a very strong prescence.
    • Myspace, Facebook and Bebo...
      • As most will know, using these social networking sites allow users to set up profiles that reach out to your customers. When you have built a good solid network, often being referred to as ‘friends’, you can post comments and messages on peoples pages. You can post bulletins and communicate through your profile image. Upload pictures and videos and customise it however you like.
    • ...What next?
      • Digg happens to be another recent website that has just started to be recognised. Its a social network that allows people to vote on the latest articles that they think are most relevant at that point in time. These contain links to other websites containing these articles where visitors over a 24 hour period will top 100,000. Instead of a typical news website where the media is posted to consumers, the consumers participate and vote themselves.
    • Social Video?
      • This is mainly about youtube. A world wide known video networking site where users upload their own videos for people across the world to watch. Some can end up with over 100,000 views. And some are noticed by a company known as blendtech. This is social marketing. The company uses these videos, if there good enough, and of what they’re looking for at the time to market them in their own ways. This can also popularise the primary producer of this video.
