Hybrid meetings that involve both face-to-face and
virtual participants have become commonplace in
our fast-paced, budget-constrained, distributed
workplace. Increasingly, organizations are also
combining classroom training with synchronous
online training to form hybrid learning events, often
for the same reasons they run hybrid meetings. If
not designed, planned, and executed well, hybrid
learning events can disrupt the experience for both
sets of audiences, giving your training department a
black eye.

  • Globalization, scalability, and costs are driving innovation in our classrooms, causing us to re-define what we consider classroom instruction. Video conferencing equipment is becoming standard issue for board rooms and classrooms. Web conferencing is becoming commonplace. Tele-presence is becoming more accessible. Live events are frequently webcast around the globe with Twitter discussions going on in parallel. Even live television shows now frequently respond to Twitter questions during the broadcast. Increasingly, organizations are holding meetings and other live events in virtualworlds; some are even beginning to use it for training events. As these technologies are more commonly used, it’s natural that we begin to see combinations of technologies coalescing into hybrid events.
