  • Slide Objective:Set context, discuss the status quo of enterprise communications, the impact consumerization has on the discussion and present the Microsoft vision for Unified Communications.Initial Build - Communications Today, Talking Points:Technology has brought us a very long way in terms of how we communicate in the business world. But as communication and collaboration technologies have evolved, they have done so independently, in parallel with one another, creating communication silos. In the meantime, the way we work is changing; business is operating at a faster pace and frequently across time zones. As a society we are more mobile, have greater access to technology outside of the workplace and have expectations to match. Today’s Information Workers are using a variety of products and services to meet all of these needs in their professional and personal lives. For most companies today, telephony and voice mail, e-mail, IM, audio conferencing, video conferencing, Web conferencing, and group communication tools all live in their own disconnected silos. Each has evolved a separate operating platform—often with proprietary third-party technology—separate clients, authentication, separate administration, and separate storage and compliance. Add to that all of the consumer oriented tools and services we are using in our daily lives - the result is an enormous headache for the end user, who has to remember separate phone numbers, account names, and passwords. Plus, these users have limited communication with each device—for example, not being able to make audio calls from their computers. Ultimately, their communication is disconnected, and their collaboration and innovation are hindered. These independent silos, which now encompass enterprise and consumer, have led to redundancies and inefficiencies for the IT administrator as well. It has become difficult and expensive to maintain them and to ensure each is in compliance with business and government regulations, is secure and manageable in the long term. Final Build - The Microsoft Unified Communications Vision, Talking Points:Microsoft® Lync® 2013 is an enterprise-ready unified communications platform. Lync connects hundreds of millions of people everywhere, on Windows 8 and other devices, as part of their everyday productivity experience. Lyncreduces complexity by putting people at the center of the communications experience. Our goal is to integrate all of the ways we contact each other in a single environment— using a single client, identity – while providing businesses with the power to choose how they provision those services—whether on their own premises, as cloud services, or in a hybrid mode.Lync provides a consistent, single client experience for presence, instant messaging, voice, video and a great meeting experience. Lync delivers an experience that is differentiated from any other Unified Communications solution in the industry with best-of-breed integration in the Office family of apps. Lync users focus less on how to use the tools and direct their energy to meeting the needs of their business. With Lync as the UC platform, IT administrators are able to modernize their operations and simplify administration with Active Directory, common data store, and a shared set of archive and compliance tools, across multiple UC components (e.g. email and instant messaging).
  • What do we mean when we refer to Microsoft Unified Communications? Microsoft UC harnesses the power of software to help streamline communications and collaboration with anytime, anywhere access, using familiar tools that integrate seamlessly and are easy to use. The Microsoft UC solution puts IT in control, providing the flexibility of choice with hosted service and on-premises options.Using our end-to-end solutions, your IT staff can bring work to life for people with familiar tools and access to information and resources when they need it, in the context they want it—all without compromising security and compliance.UC Products:When we talk about Unified Communications, we include Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, Microsoft Lync Server 2010, and Microsoft Office clients (including Microsoft Outlook®, Microsoft Lync 2010, Microsoft Exchange Online, and Microsoft Lync Online).
  • Slide Objective:Demonstrate how to click to communicate from within Microsoft Office applications, escalate from an IM conversation to voice and video chat, and share your desktop.Note: Slide builds to show functionality.Talking Points:View presence within Outlook: JP is checking his mail in Microsoft Outlook 2010. He sees a message from Terry that requires immediate attention. He is able to view presence information from within Outlook.Reply to e-mail with IM: JP views Terry’s contact card and selects to reply to the e-mail with an IM.Escalate to voice and video chat: With a single click, Paul can move the IM conversation to include voice and video.Share your desktop with a single click: To collaborate on their sales presentation, Paul adds desktop sharing.
  • Slide Objective:Show the familiar user experience for both Lync 2010 and Outlook from a rich client on a PC, on a mobile device, or over the Web.Note: Slide builds to first show Lync 2010, then Outlook.Talking Points:Lync 2010: View contact availability and use IM with internal and external contacts from your PC or mobile device, or over the Web.Outlook: View e-mail and voice mail messages from a single inbox from your PC or mobile device, or over the Web. With Microsoft Exchange 2010, Voice Mail Preview (see Mobile screenshot) allows users to see a text preview of voice messages before they listen to them.
  • Slide Objective:Describe how unified conferencing can be extended to the organization through a variety of devices, both inside and outside the business.Talking Points:Whatever You Choose: Conferencing should work with the tool that the participant chooses. This could be:Quick and simple desktop share from Lync 2010. With the desktop sharing functionality included as part of the Lync 2010 client, the barriers of entry for ad hoc Web conferencing are greatly reduced. When Microsoft IT deployed this single-click conferencing capability, usage skyrocketed (0 to more than 30,000 instantiations in five months)—without any marketing.Function-rich Web conferencing experience through Microsoft Office Live Meeting Console. For users who want a more traditional Web conferencing experience, the Office Live Meeting console is available for both on-premises and hosted deployments. Furthermore, innovative devices like the Polycom CX5000 add an extra dimension to support conferencing room-based meetings.Video conferencing rooms or telepresence rooms. For organizations that have invested in telepresence and video room systems, Microsoft Lync Server 2010 pulls these video streams into the Lync 2010 client. This can help organizations extend the reach of these audio/video (A/V)-enabled rooms to all desktops.Wherever You Are: Regardless of whether participants are at work, on the road, or not even part of the organization, Lync Server 2010 can reach out and bring them into the meeting. As Much As You Like: Users can join as much or as little of a conference as they like. If participants are on road, Lync 2010 Mobile provides a single-click method for them to join only the audio portion of the meeting. If participants are in a video-enabled room, they can join both the audio and video capacities. Lastly, if participants need to present or collaborate on data, they can join the full Web conferencing experience.
  • Lync today supports on-Premises and Cloud deployments, and supports interoperability between on-premises Lync deployments and Office 365. In Lync 2013, we will be updating the Server and the service will provide users with more choice in terms of how they deploy. On premises: Lync can be deployed “on premises” configuration, just as it has in Lync 2010 This deployment approach supports customer premises deployments and Private Cloud deployments via license mobilityCloud: Lync Online– standalone or as a part of an Office 365 suite– will continue to be available and will get the advantages of the feature and manageability improvements we deliver as part of Lync 15Hybrid: New in the Lync 2013 timeframe, enterprises will be able to split users between Lync Server 2013 and Lync Online, while keeping the same single domain name for all the users easing migration scenarios, especially where customers are eager to take advantage of the value of cloud services but where a portion of their users cannot move from an on premise deployment to the cloud.
