  1. 1. ! Do All These Acronyms Mean? Every field and profession has their fair share of jargon, but it seems that digital marketing has more acronyms and abbreviations than it knows what to do with. If you're just entering the field, here is a quick refresher on WTF all these acronyms mean. AOV 1 B2B 2 Average Order Value Business-to-Business The average value of an order on a website. Commerce and/or marketing done between businesses. B2C 3 BTS 4 Back to School Business-to-Consumer Commerce and/or marketing done between businesses and consumers CPA 5 The busy season that coincides with the end of summer when kids return to school. CPC 6 Cost per Acquisition Cost per Click How much it costs to acquire a new customer. Calculated by taking the total cost of a marketing effort and dividing by the number of acquisitions. How much you are paying for each click in a pay-per-click (see PPC) marketing account. CPM CRM 7 8 Cost per Thousand Customer Relationship Management How much it costs for an ad to reach a thousand people. (The "M" in CPM stands for "mille," which is Latin for one thousand). A model (typically a system or database) for managing a company's interactions with current and future customers. CTA 9 CTR 10 Call to Action A combination of graphics and/or text meant to grab a customer's attention and entice them to act in a certain way (e.g. "Shop Now"). CTA 50% OFF CLICK NOW! 11 ETA x/y Click Through Rate A way of measuring the success of an online advertising campaign.Calculated by dividing the total number of clicks on an ad by the number of impressions it received. 12 KPI Estimated Time of Arrival Key Performance Indicator When a product is expected to arrive. A metric (or combination of metrics) that serves as a primary indicator of a marketing efforts overall success. PPC 13 14 ROAS Pay Per Click Return on Ad Spend A form of online advertising where the advertiser pays only when users click on their ads. How much revenue is generated for each dollar spent on an ad. ROI 15 16 SaaS Return on Investment Software as a Service How much money a given investment has earned. e.g. A software model where users access a program or service through the cloud. evernote dropbox SEM 17 18 SEO Search Engine Marketing Search Engine Optimization The promotion of websites by increasing their visibility in search engine results pages through paid advertising. The process of affecting the visibility of a website in a search engine's organic results. 19 SKU 20 UVP Stock Keeping Unit Unique Value Proposition A unique identifier that refers to a distinct product or service. A statement of the value that your product or service provides a customer, i.e. what sets you apart from your competition. 21 YOY Year over Year A way of comparing metrics for a one year period by examining them in relation to an identical period from the previous year. 22 YTD Year to Date A way of analyzing a metric by looking at its performance from the beginning of the year up to the current time.
