    • The Cask of Amontillado Group 3 Wiki Steffane Ramnaryan, Hayley Bhola, Sharifa Jabar & Rechelle Finlay By Edgar Allan Poe
    • ♪ Summary ♫
      • Montresor was a vintage wine collector who felt wronged and insulted  by Fortunato, a wine connoisseur. Therefore he secretly plotted murderous revenge ! - while feigning friendship.
      • Knowing Fortunato’s pride in his expertise, he used the lure of the possibility of rare wine called Amontillado to draw “the Quack” into his trap.
      • Montresor brought him to the depths of the Catacombs and intoxicated him, ☢ chained him to wall and built a brick wall to trap him inside, where he suffocated and died painfully. ☠ 
    • ♫ A Short Story Is…
      • ♬ Descended from the novel but l imited in length and scope. It begins close to the height of the action with only a small number of characters. Typically, a short story centers on a single occurrence and the characters develop in relation to their responses to said event.

          • The “supreme madness” of carnival
          • … bowed him through several suites of rooms to the archway that led into vaults. I passed down a long and winding staircase, requesting him to be cautious as he followed. We came at length to the foot of the descent, and stood together upon the damp ground of the catacombs of the Montressors." That excerpt develops the setting in the eerie catacombs of the Montressors
      • Dialogue: Drama
        • Montresor says, “We will go back. Your health is precious. Your are rich, respected, admired, beloved; you are happy, as I once was. You are a man to be missed.” Fortunato then tells Montresor not to worry: “The cough is a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I will not die of a cough.” To this reply, Montresor says, “True–true.” The reader at this point can almost see a devilish gleam in Montresor’s eyes, for he knows exactly how Fortunato will die.” Later, Montresor opens a bottle of wine and toasts Fortunato: “To your long life,” he says.
    • ♪ Language & Style cont’d

        • Fortunato asks Montresor whether his is a mason, meaning a member of the fraternal order of Freemasonry. Montresor says he is indeed a mason. However, he is using the word to mean a craftsman who builds with stone and mortar (because he will be building Fortunato’s “tomb,” a stone wall.)
