    Notes on slide 1

Hello, This is Greg Waddell speaking and I'm here to lead you through this presentation. The purpose of this presentation is to orient you for the upcoming visit of a team from the Association for Biblical Higher Education. That team consisting of from 5 to 7 members will be coming to the MSCC campus in September. It is important that some of you (all those who can) be present at some point during that visit. Larry Griffin will be communicating to you more about that, if he has not already done so. The purpose of this presentation is to help get you prepared for that visit.

    1. Definition of \"Conflict of Interest\" -- Circumstances of a board member whereby his or her personal interests might benefit from actions taken or influence exercised by virtue of his or her official status.2. The main point here is a concern that the board truly represents the college's constituents.3. The ABHE is concerned that the board have its own internal system for self-evaluation.4. No comment5. What is the process whereby you bring new members up-to-speed with regard to your goals, values, and policies?6. The concern here is that the board function as an independent entity; that it not be subject to a higher source of authority (other than God of course).

    7. The board needs to be a part of the planning process, particularly in the area of determining the overall strategic plan.8. The main task of the board is financial oversight. How do you do this?9. The concern here is that the board ensures that the means of fund-raising are both effective and ethical.10. Are there bottlenecks in the structure of MSCC that hinder you from completing your task?11. The main concern here is that the board knows how to separate policy decisions from the day-to-day administration of the college which should be left up to the president and his staff.12. This question again is aimed at ensuring that the board knows how to make the distinction between a policy decision and an administrative decision.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to this presentation. If you have any questions, please contact me by phone or by email. I don't know that I will have the answer to all your questions, but I will certain try. Also, please continue to pray for the college and particularly for the outcome of this visit. As you know, the team will make a recommendation to the ABHE commission on accreditaiton as to whether they think we are ready for approval for the status of Candidate for Accreditation. This will be a tremendous step forward for the college if we can achieve that milestone. Thank you for your sevice to the college and God bless you.
