Conventional featuresThe useof sell lines is a conventional feature in music magazines and I adhered to this by ensuring my magazine also contained sell lines of a similar style to that of real Hip Hop magazines. The use of a main sell line along with additional ones is also significant as it indicates the main feature of this issue of the magazine.I have also used the other typical yet crucial features such as: the masthead, key image , sell lines, barcode, issue no. and price. This theme of conventional layout runs through to my contents page also, as I had a section for regular features and features only in this edition which is a convention I have seen used in other Hip Hop magazines such as Vibe. In terms of mise-en-scene I also adhered to the conventions of the genre by having the artist posing in the way he is in the front cover which makes him look dominant and the costume is also typical of the genre. The use of colloquial language throughout my magazine is again a essential convention I adhered to in order to make the targeted audience identify themselves with my magazine. The artist is also looking directly at the camera which is another typical feature. Making use of direct mode of address and this is imperative as it engages the reader. I also included competitions and other general things which are not specific to the genre in order to increase appeal to the targeted audience. The use of the same limited colour code and font is also a convention I used as this enhances brand identity.

Double Page SpreadFloatingquotesMy Double page spread is again conventional as I have used a floating quote. This is an important aspect I wanted to include as it draws the readers attention to an interesting part of the article.

I managed todevelop the conventions in my double page spread by having a pun as the title to the article this is significant as it can sell as a USP. It is catchy and will gain the interest of the reader. Unconventional featuresUnlike other magazines the artist in my front cover is not wearing jewellery or a baseball cap which is conventional attire for rappers. The use of 1 image in my contents page is also unconventional as real music magazines of the same genre use several pictures to engage the reader to certain aspects of the magazine. However in my magazine the images are not essential as the main stories are outlined in the front cover and the use of different sized fonts indicate the importance of the articles. The use of a pun for the title of my double page spread article challenges the conventions of other magazines and this is important to me as it makes my magazine have points that make it unique and not too similar to others.I also didn’t include freebies in my magazine as I believed it was too cliché and I wanted my magazine to stand out.

In comparison toother magazines of the same genreI believe my magazine is unique, although it does carry some of the conventions of magazines of the same genre there are aspects which make it unique and serve as USP’s to differentiate it from other magazines and make it appeal to the target audience.
