Evaluation Powerpoint - Q3

  1. 1. Gregory McLaney Evaluation – Q3: What Kind of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Media Product and Why? Gregory McLaney
  2. 2. Gregory McLaney IPC Media & Bauer Media The two music institutes which colour distribute my media are: ‘IPC Media’ and ‘Bauer Media’ these two music distributors could offer an excellent distribution service and I’m going to research in to the companies and explain why these two companies would offer the best distribution for my media product.
  3. 3. About IPC Media IPC Media produces over 60 iconic media brands, with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men – almost 26 million UK adults – while our websites collectively reach over 20 million users every month (Omniture). IPC's diverse print and digital portfolio offers something for everyone, with a focus on three core audiences: men, mass market women and upmarket women. Our men's portfolio (IPC Inspire) comprises a wealth of leisure brands including Country Life, Horse & Hound, Rugby World and Decanter, as well as lifestyle brands including Nuts, Mousebreaker and NME. Our mass market women's division (IPC Connect) comprises famous women's weeklies including Look, Now, Chat and Woman; TV entertainment brands including What's on TV, TVTimes and TV & Satellite Week and, online, the goodtoknow network. Our upmarket women's division (IPC Southbank) comprises luxury fashion brands including Marie Claire and InStyle, lifestyle brands including woman&home and essentials and home interest brands including Ideal Home, Livingetc and housetohome. 4. 4. Gregory McLaney IPC Media (NME) <ul><li>NME Audience Profile </li></ul><ul><li>NME.COM is Europe's biggest and most viewed music website. It has earned worldwide respect for its rock music news and features, which are updated around the clock. With 1.3 million unique users generating over 13 million page impressions nme.com is the U.K.'s premier music content website. It offers unparalleled access to an affluent young audience and a unique opportunity to communicate with them in an environment that they relate to and return to frequently - 63% visit the site weekly or more frequently*. The nme.com audience is made up of key demographic groups that can be difficult to target through other media: </li></ul><ul><li>65% Male </li></ul><ul><li>50% 16-24 </li></ul><ul><li>23% 25-34 </li></ul><ul><li>79% ABC1 </li></ul><ul><li>Our readers are passionate about music and as a result of their close relationship with the site content they are far more responsive to advertising. Whether they are more positively disposed towards brands that they see as supporting their favourite site or accessing advertising that they see as particularly relevant to them and their lifestyles they are 33% more likely than average to have taken action as a result of seeing an advertisement on the site. </li></ul><ul><li>– Source: Official IPC Media Website </li></ul>

  6. 6. Gregory McLaney Why IPC Media Would Be A Good Distributor ‘ IPC Media’ have a massive range of magazines in which they distribute. However, they are not all music magazines, so this does mean they lack the motive of delivering music magazines. Considering this, they do distribute a huge music magazine ‘NME’ this is one of the most well known magazines. With all of ‘IPC Media’s business and magazine links/experience I think they would be an ideal company to distribute my magazine, especially because they distribute to a huge range of audience niche and mass. This would therefore suggest they could deliver any genre or type of magazine as long as it is going to offer good quality and good sales. Overall, I think that ‘IPC Media’ would be definitely be an option to distribute my magazine, they have the experience and magazine distribution experience to host a new music magazine in a niche audience (Hip-hop).
  7. 7. Gregory McLaney About Bauer Media Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group is a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and radio stations. Bauer Media joined the Bauer Media Group in January 2008 following acquisition of Emap plc’s consumer and specialist magazines, radio, TV, online and digital businesses. Collectively, the Group employs some 6,400 people. Bauer Media is a multi-platform UK-based media Group consisting of many companies collected around two main divisions – Magazines and Radio - widely recognised and rewarded as being industry innovators. Our business is built on influential media brands with millions of personal relationships with engaged readers and listeners. Our strategy is to connect audiences with excellent content through our broad multi-touch point brand platforms, wherever and whenever and however they want. Our wide portfolio of influential brands gives us advantages over pure play magazine or radio competitors. – Source: Official Bauer Media Website.
  8. 8. About Bauer Media Our magazine heritage stretches back to 1953 with the launch of Angling Times and the acquisition in 1956 of Motor Cycle News, both still iconic brands within our portfolio. The seeds of the company’s radio business were planted in 1990 with the acquisition of London dance station Kiss FM (now called Kiss 100), followed by the acquisition of Liverpool's Radio City and later by TWC and the Metro Group. Then came the acquisition of Melody FM which was transformed into the market-leading Magic 105.4. In 1994, the company bought a small magazine called For Him Magazine which is now the core of the best-selling international multi-platform brand FHM. In 1996, we acquired digital music TV channel The Box, as a route into the small screen business, which has grown into Box Television, a seven channel joint venture TV business with Channel 4. Continuing its history of magazine launches, Closer was launched in 2002 and Britain’s first weekly glossy, GRAZIA, was launched in 2005. Today, Bauer Media spans over 80 influential brand names covering a diverse range of interests including heat – the must have weekly celebrity title, Parkers, MATCH!, CAR and Yours. Bauer Media is a sister company of H Bauer Publishing, publisher of the UK's biggest TV listings, Take a Break and Bella. – Source: Official Bauer Media Website. Gregory McLaney

  11. 11. Gregory McLaney Why Bauer Media Would Be A Good Distributor <ul><li>‘ Bauer Media’ have links throughout all of the media fields and this leads to them distributing to a huge amount of mass and niche audience through various different medias. Predominantly, magazines and music magazines. This leads on to the main reasons why Bauer Media could distribute a magazine like ‘Bass’. Firstly, they have the connections and advertising abilities to secure a successful distribution of any magazine. Plus, they also distribute music magazines in various genres such as ‘Kerrang’ (Rock) and they have a gap in the market for the distribution of a Hip-hop genre magazine. Finally, with all the experience, brand associates and expertise ‘Bauer Media’ could definitely sucessfully distribute my music magazine by advertising and exhibiting my magazine ‘Bass’ in the niche audience genre (Hip-hop). </li></ul>
