  • 2. Upside-Down Greatness<br />
  • 3. Luke 22:24-27<br />(24) And there arose a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest.<br />
  • 4. Luke 22:24-27<br />(25) And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’<br />
  • 5. Luke 22:24-27<br />(26) But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.<br />
  • 6. Luke 22:24-27<br />(27) For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.<br />
  • 7. John 13<br />(3) Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God,<br />
  • 8. John 13<br />(4) got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself.<br />
  • 9. John 13<br />(5) Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.<br />
  • 10. Jesus assumed the role of a servant.<br />(13) <br />
  • 11. We miss how shocking this was to them.<br />(13) <br />
  • 12. John 13:14-16<br />(14) If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.<br />
  • 13. John 13:14-16<br />(15) For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.<br />
  • 14. John 13:14-16<br />(16) Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.<br />
  • 15. Humbling Ourselves Like Jesus<br />The World’s View: Greatness is being served.<br />
  • 16. Matthew 23:11-12<br />(11) But the greatest among you shall be your servant. (12) Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled, and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.<br />
  • 17. Humbling Ourselves Like Jesus<br />Jesus turns greatnessupside-down!<br />
  • 18. John 13<br />(17) If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.<br />
  • 19. Turning Ourselves Upside-Down<br />I must learn to desire the right praise.<br />
  • 20. Turning Ourselves Upside-Down<br />I must put others ahead of myself.<br />
  • 21. Believing means serving!<br />
