Self Esteem

  1. 1. SELF ESTEEM What a person thinks of himself is important. “For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he” (Prov. 23:7).
  2. 2. The Ideal Self-Esteem <ul><li>1. Security (Rom. 5:1-2; 8:1-2; 35-39) </li></ul><ul><li>2. Significance (Rom. 8:14-17; 1 Peter 2:9-10) </li></ul><ul><li>3. Competence (Phil. 4:13; 2 Tim. 1:7-9) </li></ul>
  3. 3. Suggestions for building self-esteem in your mate and your children. <ul><li>A. Provide a secure environment. </li></ul><ul><li>B. Try to understand them. </li></ul><ul><li>C. Be patient with them. </li></ul><ul><li>D. Have faith in them. </li></ul><ul><li>E. Praise and compliment them (Gal. 6:3; Prov. 18:22) </li></ul>
  4. 4. Some Practical Help in Building Self-Esteem. <ul><li>A. Be careful what and how you think. </li></ul><ul><li>B. Believe that your self-esteem can be changed for the better. </li></ul><ul><li>C. Do things that will make you like yourself. </li></ul><ul><li>D. Take some risks in your effort to improve (Matt. 14:25-31). </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>E. Do not be critical of yourself or others. </li></ul><ul><li>F. Take a look at other people . Imitate their good and avoid their bad (1 Cor. 11:1; 1 Tim. 4:12) </li></ul><ul><li>G. Forget about the mistakes you have made (Phil. 3:13-14). </li></ul><ul><li>H. Know that you do not have to live up to the expectations of others. </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>I. Worship God in a faithful and regular manner (Acts 20:7; Heb. 10:25). </li></ul><ul><li>J. Accept the fact that life is not always fair. </li></ul><ul><li>K. Do not be a procrastinator. Do things today that need to be done (Prov. 27:1; James 4:13-15). </li></ul><ul><li>L. Ask God daily to help you be the best person you can be (Phil. 1:21). </li></ul>
