PLACE: BIDDULPH AOG. THUR. 12/19TH MAY 2005. TEXT: REV.19:7-9. THEME: THE MARRIAGE. INTRODUCTION: READING: REV. 19:7-9. “ The marriage of the Lamb,” occurs at the Coming of Christ when He is reunited with His Church. The voice of a great multitude announces this event. Jesus used the wedding descriptions to portray His present and future relationship to the Church. 1. He called Himself the Bridegroom, Mark 2:19 “And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast.” 2. And He likened the coming of His kingdom to a wedding feast (Matthew 22:1-14; 25:1-13). 3. Believers are “married” to the Lord, 1 Corinthians 6:17 “But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” 2 Corinthians 11:2 “For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.”
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb 1 Revelation 19:7-9
2. First arranged marriage, Genesis 2:18-24 “And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
“ After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honour and power belong to the Lord our God! And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sat on the throne, saying, “Amen! Alleluia!”
Then a voice came from the throne, saying, “Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!” And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” Revelation 19:1, 4-6.
After the marriage of the Lamb in heaven, the next great event is the return of Christ to the earth.
The King is coming! The King is coming!
But He will not come until after the church has been raptured and after the earth has undergone the Great Tribulation. Now when He comes to the earth, His bride will be with Him. What a glorious day is ahead of us!
