• Place: Date: Text: Genesis 1:26-30, 2:21-24. Theme: Adam and Eve. Introduction: Reading: Genesis 1:26-30. Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food"; and it was so.

Masculinity:

The Nature of a Man

God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion” Genesis 1:26.

In creating Adam, defining his role, and placing him in the garden to tend it and to name the animals ( Genesis 1:26; 2:15, 19-20 ), God was defining masculinity.

Indeed, looking through Scripture, we see woven through the lives of men what seems to be a clear vital for masculine leadership and responsibility ( Genesis 3:17-19 ).

    11. 11. Adam & Eve

2nd Point: Eve. D.

Femininity: The Nature of a Woman

Femininity is a reality of God’s design and making—His precious gift to every woman—and, in a very different way, His gracious gift to men as well. The difference between men and women is not a mere matter of biology.

Throughout the millennia of human history, up until the past several decades, people took for granted that the differences were so obvious as to need no comment.

    12. 12. Adam & Eve

2nd Point: Eve. E.

EVE. Femininity: The Nature of a Woman.

The challenge of biblical femininity for you is to be a woman, holy through and through, asking for nothing but what God wants to give you, receiving with both hands and with all your heart whatever that is. Femininity is a precious treasure to be guarded and nourished each and every day.

    13. 13. Adam & Eve

2nd Point: Eve. F.

Eve. The Creation of the Woman.

God identified Himself as a “Helper” to Israel ( Genesis 18:4; Deuteronomy 33:7 ).

The word does not imply inferiority. It describes function rather than worth. No one loses value in humbly assuming the role of helper.

As a “helper” to the man, the woman became his partner spiritually in the overwhelming task of obedience to God and dominion over the earth.

    14. 14. Adam & Eve

2nd Point: Eve. G.

Genesis 2:16-17

“ And the Lord God commanded the man (and woman), saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

    15. 15. Adam & Eve

Marriage: God’s Plan for Marriage

God’ plan for marriage is introduced ( Genesis 2:24 ) and repeated in the Gospels ( Matthew 19:5 ) and in the Epistles ( Ephesians 5:31 ). Marriage was perfect in its establishment: one man and one woman in a lifetime commitment.

God never intended for man to be alone ( Genesis 2:18 ). The very bone from which woman was crafted came from man ( Genesis 2:23 ). Woman was taken out of man, then presented to man in order to complete him. God created the man and the woman in His image ( Genesis 1:26 ) with physical and emotional needs that only another human being could meet ( Genesis 2:18 ).

    16. 16. Adam & Eve

Marriage: God’s Plan for Marriage

Marriage is a threefold miracle.

1. It is a biological miracle in which two people actually become one flesh.

2. It is a social miracle by which two families are grafted together.

3. It is a spiritual miracle in that the marriage relationship pictures the union of Christ and His bride, the church ( Ephesians 5:23-27 ).

    17. 17. Adam & Eve The Fall into sin Genesis 3:6-7 “ So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.”
    18. 18. The fall into sin

The Results of Sin

Verse 3:7

1. The experiential knowledge of evil.

2. The shame and guilt.

3. The search for clothing to cover.

Verse 3:8

The desire for concealment.

The fear of God’s presence.

The loss of fellowship with God.

Verse 3:12

The refusal of personal responsibility.

The shifting of blame from self to others.

    19. 19. The Fall into sin The Curse The curse is not just a judgment rendered but also is an explanation of the relationship between the man and the woman after the Fall. Alienation has come between the man and woman. And between the couple and God. And that means a distortion of God’s plan.
    20. 20. Adam & Eve

3 rd Point: The Serpent. A.

Genesis 3:1

“ Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, “You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”

    21. 21. Adam & Eve

3 rd Point: The Serpent. B.

Genesis 3:1

“ Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, “You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”

    22. 22. Adam & Eve

3 rd Point: The Serpent. C.

Genesis 3:2-4

“ And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; “but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, “You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.”

    23. 23. Adam & Eve

4th Point: Adam. A.

Genesis 3:17-19

“ Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, “You shall not eat of it:”

“ Cursed is the ground for your sake; …in the sweat of your face you shall eat bread. Till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”

    24. 24. Adam & Eve

5 th Point: Eve. A.

Genesis 3:15

“ And I will put enmity Between you and the woman,

And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
