• There are two words translated temple in the New Testament. One refers to the temple building and all its courts. The other refers strictly to the Most Holy Place where no one but the high priest could go. Paul uses the latter term to describe the local church, in whom God dwells. Unlike 6:19, where the word temple refers to the individual believer, and Ephesians 2:21, where the word speaks of the church universal. These verses speak of the local church as God’s temple. God takes very seriously our actions in the church

    2. 2. I AM GOD’S TEMPLE

GOD’S CHOSEN INSTRUMENT.

In contemporary English, a “chosen instrument” is a person to whom a special task has been entrusted.

The expression derives from Acts 9:15, the Lord’s words to Ananias concerning Saul: “Go your way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear My name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel.”

Other versions render “chosen vessel” as “chosen instrument,” “an instrument whom I have chosen,” “I have chosen him.”

    3. 3.

“ Do not you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? God will bring ruin upon anyone who ruins this temple. For God's temple is holy, and you Christians are that temple .”

1 Corinthians 3:16-17

    4. 4.

“ Do not you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit , who lives in you and was given to you by God ? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honour God with your body.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

    5. 5. 1a. God Lives Here

Paul reminds the believers that they are the temple, the inner shrine or sanctuary) of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in them.

It is true that every individual believer is also a temple of God indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

    6. 6. 1b. God Lives Here

“ I have set apart this Temple you have built so that My name will be honoured there forever. I will always watch over it and care for it.” 1 Kings 9:3

The blessed fact that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit has two sides.

1. One, that He is ours.

2. The other, that we are His.

    7. 7. 1c. God Lives Here

“ Do not you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16

How could we ever think of taking a body in which the Holy Spirit dwells and using it for evil purposes?

    8. 8. 1d. God Lives Here

“ The church is His body; it is filled by Christ, who fills everything everywhere with His presence .”

Ephesians 1:23

“ Do not be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you .”

Ephesians 5:18

    9. 9. 2a. God Is Worshiped Here What is the proper way to worship God?
    10. 10. 2b. God Is Worshiped Here

“ Because of Your unfailing love, I can enter Your house; with deepest awe I will worship at Your Temple .” Psalms 5:7

Scripture assures us that God notices and responds when we worship Him.

    11. 11. 2c. God Is Worshiped Here

“ O God, we meditate on Your unfailing love as we worship in Your Temple .” Psalms 48:9

It is interesting to compare the account of the temple’s dedication in 2 Chronicles 5–7 with the account in 1 Kings 8. 2 Chronicles provides less detail until it comes to the singers and trumpeters. Then it shows how the musicians’ harmony in pitch and purpose brought the ceremony to its climax ( 2 Chronicles 5:13 ), and God responded by blessing the occasion, with His glory and presence ( 2 Chronicles 5:14 ).

    12. 12. 2d. God Is Worshiped Here

“ I bow before your holy Temple as I worship . I will give thanks to Your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness, because Your promises are backed by all the honour of Your name.”

Psalms 138:2

    13. 13. 2e. God Is Worshiped Here

“ Do you see what we have got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God. For God is not an indifferent bystander .”

Hebrews 12:28 (Message)

    14. 14. 3a. God Is Honoured Here

“ Do not you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? God will bring ruin upon anyone who ruins this temple . For God's temple is holy, and you Christians are that temple.”

1 Corinthians 3:16-17

    15. 15. 3b. God Is Honoured Here

“ Do not you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honour God with your body .”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

    16. 16. 3c. God Is Honoured Here

“ Do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live . Remember, He is the one who has identified you as His own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30
