  • Global Atlas is an Integrated Global Spatial Data Infrastructure 3
  • Global Atlas is an Integrated Global Spatial Data Infrastructure • In this Distributed System limits IRENA’s need to o o o o o Own the data Store the data Serve the data Be concerned about Intellectual Property Worry about updates to the data • All of this is also true of Analysis provided to the Atlas by outside partners Internet Custom code provided through data and analysis services 4
  • Many Organizations Work in Spatial Analysis • “Traditional” GIS and Spatial Analysis using Excel, ArcMap, PostGIS, MatLab, R, and others o Solving problems, producing data, visualizing results • High End Cartography Communicating results to others in graphic form o Excellent format for expressing complex ideas and spatial relationships o • Enterprise Web Based Spatial Analysis o o o Web based Perform dynamic analysis Communication of results 5
