  • 8. What is the History of The High Interest, High Achievement Theory?Tuesday, April 26, 2011
  • 9. Being a college student I have been assigned many papers and projects over the years of my schooling. During my college experience I have been forced to take some general education classes that I have had no interest in what so ever. The courses I have taken that I have had interest in I have always received great grades as well as information I still remember. Recently experiencing courses with my lack of connection I have grown to struggle with papers and projects that I never had a problem with before.Tuesday, April 26, 2011
  • 10. How did the Theory Develop?Tuesday, April 26, 2011
  • 11. Last semester I was working on a final paper for a class I had no interest in and found myself very frustrated. I started thinking back at my other classes I have over achieved in and they have always been classes that I have had an interest in. I even looked at my past transcripts andit was clear that there was a connection with my interest in a subject and how well I had achieved.Tuesday, April 26, 2011
  • 12. Why is this Theory Interpretive?Tuesday, April 26, 2011
  • 13. The High Interest, High Achievement Theory is a Interpretive Theory Because... • The Theory has multiple truths • The Truth is constructed through communication (socially) • You cannot separate the knower from the known • The theory may have multiple meanings • The theory focuses on conscious choices made by an individual • Isn’t trying to prove a TheoryTuesday, April 26, 2011
  • 14. Does it meet the Standards of an Interpretive Theory? • It Creates Understanding • It Identifies Values • It Inspires aesthetic appreciation • It Stimulates Agreement • It Reforms SocietyTuesday, April 26, 2011
  • 15. How Can This Theory Be Applied in Real Life?Tuesday, April 26, 2011
  • 16. • 1.) Looking at your transcript or report cards from the past you can look back on your history of classes and based on your level of interest in the course you can see your correlating grades.Tuesday, April 26, 2011
  • 17. • 2.) Away from schooling you can apply this theory to your work life. People who have an interest in there jobs as I do tend to put more effort and time into their jobs. By putting more effort and time into your job you will Achieve more in your work.Tuesday, April 26, 2011
  • 18. • You can apply this theory into your personal life by taking a look at your hobby or sport of interest. For me that is soccer and I put much more effort and interest into soccer than chores around the house. Therefore I am a higher achiever at soccer than at the dishes or laundry.Tuesday, April 26, 2011
