  • 1. THANKSGIVING DAY … a holiday celebrated in USA
  • 2. HISTORY <ul><li>Thanksgiving is one of the most important holiday in USA. What is it’s history? </li></ul><ul><li>The first winter for people from Europe, who had got to the New World on the board of ‘Mayflower’ , was very hard and many of them died. Rest of the first year was much better thanks to Indians, who helped colonists to survive (by for example teaching them how to farm). After the summer white people decided to thank God for bumper crop and all the other good things which happened to them, involving help from Indians. That was the first Thanksgiving , which was celebrated with 90 Native Americans. </li></ul>

  • 4. <ul><li>HISTORY </li></ul><ul><li>In 1863 president Abraham Lincoln announced Thanksgiving a public holiday. </li></ul><ul><li>Nowadays it is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. </li></ul>
  • 5. TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS FAMILY REUNION: One of the most important thing in this holiday is spending time with family. All members of the family meet together on a reunion.
  • 6. TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS <ul><li>FEAST: Thanksgiving means also a ceremonial dinner. Stuffed or roasted turkey is the most important meal. On the table are also cranberry, potato puree and gravy. </li></ul>
  • 7. TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS <ul><li>GIVING THANKS: Before or after dinner family is praying to God to thank for all the good things, which happened to them. </li></ul>
  • 8. TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS <ul><li>PARADES: There are Thanksgiving parades in many cities . The most famous is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. </li></ul>
  • 9. TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS <ul><li>FOOTBALL: American football is an important part of many Thanksgiving celebrations in the United States . Many games are played during this holiday. </li></ul>
