    Qt is a cross-platform framework that enables a developer creating an app to write the software once yet deploy that app across a broad range of device portfolio and on desktop computers. Through Qt, developers are able to leverage their investment in several platforms. With support for Symbian; developers who have existing Qt applications running on desktop or any of the other handheld platforms previously supported can now use that same code to run on an S60 device. When building supporting for Symbian, Qt has been extended their API’s to utilize the assets of Symbian platforms. We mentioned earlier, though developing with Symbian C++ is hard, when it’s done right it is beautiful thing. What Qt does is essentially gives developers the key to same performance, mutli-tasking, rich multimedia features in the worlds largest smartphone platform. In our next release of Qt, we will have support for native Symbian C++; it will have support for Maemo 6. In future, ALL our devices will have Qt libraries installed. In future, a number of our Ovi Services will be provided using Qt, and as we just discussed these Ovi Services will be open to developers using the same Qt API’s. What we have today, is now N900 and Qt (based on 4.5). This is an excellent starting point to learn Qt and then leverage it with Symbian skills/offerings that are coming soon. Qt has already support Linux and X11 which is one of the core components of the Maemo platform. With Qt 4.6 we are ensuring that the Linux support has been optimized for the Maemo platform. So there is a good level of maturity, that allowed community to port Qt4.5 to run on Maemo 5 which powers the N900 device. Let’s say this is more of a Beta version for Qt on Maemo, but never the less has all the fully set of Linux services needed for developers to build apps, and more importantly start to acquire Maemo skiils. This will help developers to take their apps forward also to the next release of Maemo, which we build on Qt. In both case of Symbian and Maemo, Qt will be initially offered as a plug-in set of libraries supported by SDK’s and then later integrated as part of the device platforms. (this is similar to Open C/C++ plugins)
