All4cycling mountain biking

  1. 1. Cycling Cycling, also called bicycling or biking, is the use of bicycles for transport, recreation, or for sport. Persons engaged in cycling are referred to as "cyclists“ or "bikers" or less commonly, as "bicyclists". Apart from two-wheeled bicycles, "cycling" also includes the riding of unicycles, tricycles, and similar human-powered vehicles
  2. 2. Health Benefits of Cycling • Cycling is one of the easiest ways to exercise. • Cycling builds strength and muscle tone. • Cycling builds stamina. • Cycling improves cardio-vascular fitness. • Cycling eats up calories. • Cycling improves heart health. • Cycling reduces stress.
  3. 3. Mountain Biking Mountain biking is the sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, using specially designed mountain bikes. Mountain bikes share similarities with other bikes, but incorporate features designed to enhance durability and performance in rough terrain. Mountain biking can be performed almost anywhere from a back yard to a gravel road, but the majority of mountain bikers ride offroad trails, whether country back roads, fire roads, or single-track (narrow trails that wind through forests, mountains, deserts, or fields). There are aspects of mountain biking that are more similar to trail running than regular bicycling.
  4. 4. How Mountain Biking Works • Mountain biking can be performed on any off-road surface. While mountain trails are among the most popular spots, bikers also flock to deserts and national parks to add some variety to their routine. • Destination mountain biking provides an opportunity to explore further fields as bikers travel the globe looking for the next great trail. • While racing and thrills are easy to find in this sport, mountain biking actually encompasses a number of various divisions aimed at different types of riders and interest levels. • Cross-country biking is the most popular, and involves rides on mountain trails of all shapes and sizes.
  5. 5. Mountain bike accessories • Wheels: A mountain bike usually has wide knobby tires that offer more substantial grip and traction on a variety of surfaces, including gravel, dirt, rock and sand. • Frame: Most entry-level mountain bike frames are steel due to the strength and durability the material offers and the low price of steel. Disadvantages of steel are its weight and that it can be prone to rusting. • Gears: Mountain bikes have a wide range of gearing to allow them to handle a broad range of terrain. With low gears that go well below that of most road bikes, riders are more easily able to conquer some wicked steep hills.
  6. 6. • Pedals: Basic mountain bikes come equipped with platform pedals. This is useful if you’re the type of rider who frequently puts your feet down. • Accessories: For a mountain bike include a cyclo computer, frame pump, tool bag, water bottle and cage. Also, given the rugged nature of the riding and the frequent distance from “civilization” that mountain biking trails go, many mountain bikers carry tools kits outfitted with a good many more tools and replacement parts than their roadie counterparts need to bring along.
