  • The dictionary defines Social Media as “forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos)” (Merrium-Webster, 2013). What this mean for us is that people are communicating more and more online than in person. By using Social Media people can take a face to face conversation and, by using the internet, can make the same conversation non-personal.
  • The five best Social Media sites in 2013 are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, and Pinterest (Technologist.com) Using at least one of these sites will give you the ability to reach millions of potential customers. Just imagine if you used two, or even all five. These are not the only social media sites out there either. There are plenty more to chose from.
  • According to World Internet User statistics, there are currently 2,405,518,376 Internet users logging onto the world wide web, approximately 34% of the global population. A large majority of global Internet users regularly frequent their preferred social media networks (YSF Magazine 2013). That 34% spreads across all age ranges and demographics. No matter what your target consumer is, you will be able to reach them via Social Media sites.
  • In todays day and age it seems like everyone has a smart phone, if not at least a laptop or PC. According to Leichtman Research Group data, about 83 percent of US households now have Internet service at home (GigaomReasearch). That percentage spans across a multitude of devices, which most of have access to social media.
  • A research conducted by Optify, a US-based digital marketing company, revealed that social media sites, especially Facebook and Twitter are the most effective tools to generate traffic and persuading customer to buy the products. According to its report, 54 and 32 per cent visitors, respectively, were diverted from Facebook and Twitter in 2012. The analysis was conducted over 600 US B2B SMB websites and parsed over 62 million site visits in 2012 (Pardal, 2013). These numbers provide some insight on the effectiveness of social media. This is just Facebook and Twitter. Add in the mass amounts of other social media sites and you could possibly reach the entire world.
  • Here is the main purpose of the presentation. How it effects your company. Just between Facebook and Twitter there are 1.5 billion users (Pardal, 2013). Every time one of those users log in to their chosen social media outlet they see adds from other companies that are already marketing social media. You would have the ability to reach virtually every targeted consumer category with a paperless, easy to set up advertisement.
  • Remember the numbers, 1.5 billion users on Facebook and Twitter alone. 83% of Americans have internet access, most of which use social media. 34% of GLOBAL internet users access social media. If your company isn't fully taking advantage of social media, it might be missing out on opportunities to connect with customers, gain market share and bring needed talent into the organization.
