  • 1. The Church the Biblical Writers Envisioned Adapted from a sermon by Frank Higginbotham “ The Church the Prophets Saw”
  • 2. Things I am Taking for Granted:
    • The church was planned for eternity. ( Ephesians 3:10-11)
    • It was established at Pentecost. (Acts 1:8; Acts 2:4-47)
    • The prophets desired to know what they were predicting. (1 Peter 1:10-12)
  • 3. They Saw a Church at Peace
    • The nature of the kingdom is one of peace . (Isaiah 2:4)
    • Christians have a peace the world cannot comprehend. (Philippians 4:6-7)
    • Paul started writing letters with words and greetings of peace. (1 Corinthians 1:3)
    • Love prevails out of peace. (Hebrews 13:1; John 13:35)
  • 4. They Saw a Church of Purity
    • Isaiah writes of the “Highway of Holiness.” (Isaiah 35:8,9)
    • The church is pure in doctrine. (Galatians 1:6-9)
    • The church is pure in worship. (John 4:24)
    • The church is pure in conduct. (Titus 2:1-12)
  • 5. They Saw a Church of Strength
    • Some wonder if the church will be able to endure:
      • “ internal troubles” (Acts 6; Philippians 4:2)
      • “ doctrinal problems” (2 Timothy 4:1-4)
    • The church will rise above the mountians. (Isaiah 2:2,3)
    • The church will never be destroyed:
      • Daniel 2:44
      • Hebrews 12:28
  • 6. They Saw a Church for all People
    • “ All nations will flow to it.” (Isaiah 2:2)
    • The gospel includes both Jew and Gentile . (Romans 1:16; Acts 10:35)
    • Reconciliation takes place in one body for all. (Ephesians 2:14-26)
  • 7. What did the Bible Writers See?
    • They saw a church at PEACE
    • They saw a church of PURITY
    • They saw a church of STRENGTH
    • They saw a church for ALL PEOPLE
  • 8. Are you part of the church the Bible writers saw?
