      in the Lord
    5. The Exodus from Egypt
      The power of God was shown at the beginning (Exodus 13:21).
      Pharaoh seeks revenge (Exodus 14:1-10).
      The nation of Israel turns to Moses for answers (Exodus 14:11-12).
    6. Exodus 14.13
      “And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today.”

      Notice who was fighting for the Israelites. (Exodus 14.14)
      Notice the power of God was still show to the Israelites despite their thoughts of turning. (Exodus 14.19)

      May your salvation only be found in God’s Son:
      “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

      • Baal was a male god of the Canaanites and the Phoenicians.
      • During the time of the judges, altars were built to Baal (Judges 2:13; 6:28-32).
      • The worship of Baal contained human sacrifice (Jeremiah 19:5).

      • Elijah had asked God that rain cease from falling on the Earth (1 Kings 17:1-7).
      • 1 Kings 18:1 states that “the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year…”
      • The “third year” seems to represent the period of the drought (Luke 4:25; James 5:17).

      • The challenge took place on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:20).
      • Mt. Carmel was on the border of Israel and Phoenician territory (remember who chose the site). (see 1 Kings 18:19)

      “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.”
    22. Where is Your Commitment?
      • Are you committed to the false teachings of the day?
      • Are you joining yourself with the gods of no power?
      • Is your life spent building your altar to worship?

      • Are you committed to God no matter come what may?
      • Elijah faced a serious challenge, but the Lord was on his side.

      • Time – What does your schedule say about your commitment?
      • Money – What does your checkbook say about your commitment?
    25. Improving Commitment?
      • Prayer – Elijah Prayed!
      • God’s Word – Elijah spent time with God.
      • Sharing Knowledge – Elijah shared time teaching others
