    • Visit to the well Gvendarbrunnur in Reykjavik Furugrund Iceland January 2009
    • About Gvendarbrunn
      • Since 1909 people in the capital area get their water from a well named Gvendarbrunnur.
      • Gvendarbrunnur is in Heidmork near the suburb of Reykjavik.
      • Our oldest children (5 years) went to visit Gvendarbrunn to study; Where the water in our taps come from?
    • We have to go there with a bus
    • Here we are, in the countryside
    • A young man told us all about the water and wells
    • The kids lis ten to him carefully
    • We also studyed. How it was in the old days? Then people had to get the water from the stream. It wasn’t good water because it ran above the ground. In 1908 people in Reykjavik decided to pump the water up from the ground to have good water.
    • This is like the pipe from the old days, in 1909….
    • … but now it is like this
    • There was a light board that showed where the water goes
    • They can push on buttons and see where the water goes
    • Then we went down into the earth
    • They pump the water up from the ground and then the water goes in the pipes to our homes
    • The children could look down and see the water deep down there
    • Here you can see the water
    • Pictures to explain
    • The pipes are very long as you can see. This one is just inside the pumphouse
    • The water tasted so good
    • In the pumphouse there was a show of animals who live in the water protect area
    • The mink catches the birds
    • We also see many types of fire hydrant
    • In the end the young man gave us T-shirts
    • I’m a Powerball
    • At home the children talked about where the wather comes from and what it’s made of, and draw a pictures
    •
    • The end
