This book, which is available on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Exponential-Change-drives-about-future-ebook/dp/B00HPSAYEM), describes the drivers of exponential change and what these drivers tell about the future. Based on an analysis of more than 50 technologies, it shows that exponential change is driven by: 1) the creation of new materials that better exploit a physical phenomena and 2) changes in scale. The creation of new materials has enabled improvements in the strength to weight of materials, the luminosity per watt of LEDs and in other dimensions for many other technologies. Changes in scale include both increases and reductions in scale. Production, energy, and transportation-related equipment typically benefit from increases in scale while integrated circuits (ICs), magnetic storage, MEMS (microelectronic mechanical systems), and bio-electronic ICs for DNA sequencing benefit from reductions in scale.
