  • There were 159,221 MW of wind power installed in the world in 2009. The global wind power market had grown at an average annual growth rate of 39.7 percent from 2005 to 2009 and reached 159,221 MW in 2009. Offshore installations represented only 1.2 percent of the total market. Although the current recession is expected to curtail electricity demand in the short term of the forecast period, as the global economy recovers its past levels, growth in wind power demand is likely to return to trend at the end of 2010. The global wind power market is expected to continue growing during the forecast period at a CAGR of 22.1 percent from 2009 to 2016, reaching almost 600 GW in 2016.
