Who Is Jesus Of Nazareth_ (47)

  1. 1. Who Is Jesus Of Nazareth?Who was Jesus of Nazareth? For nearly two thousand many years, the world has debated this query. Some say He was a prophet. Some think he was a madman. Still other people think He was aexcellent teacher. But for those who recognize His voice, the question is not really Who was Jesus ofNazareth?, but rather Who is Jesus of Nazareth? Because unlike additional men of history, jesus ofNazareth was, is actually, and will be for all of eternity.A careful examination of the historic record reveals that christ of Nazareth is nothing less than theWord of God dwelling as flesh among males. The Holy Spirit of God became a man and walkedamong us:"in the beginning the Word already existed. The term was with God, and also the Word was God."john 1:1 (NLT)"So the Word became human and made his home among us." John 1:14 (NLT)"In Christ life all the fullness of god in a human body." Colossians 2 :9 (NLT)While most of the worlds people desperately search for truth - to become closer to God Almighty, thecreator of the Universe - the door is wide open for them to experience a personal relationship withthat exact same God. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Their name is Jesus ofNazareth. But dont take my personal word for it. God includes a number of identifiable character characteristics. If Jesus of Nazareth is worthy of the name of God Almighty and Lord of Heavens Armies, then thehistorical account of His life will uncover that He shared these distinctive traits. Lets examine them.Omniscient (All-Knowing)The definition of God requires Him to become all-knowing. God must have understanding of allthings, including the thoughts associated with others. Did Jesus display this character trait? indeed. He did.History discloses a number of instances in which jesus displayed His omniscience. RIght here, wellexamine a few.The Coin In The Fish -- Jesus illustrated His knowledge of the future, as well as His understanding ofthe most minute details of development when He revealed in order to His disciples that they were tocatch a fish, open its mouth, and find a large gold coin inside:"drop the lake and toss in a line. Open the actual mouth of the first fish you catch, and you will look fora large silver coin." Matthew 17:27 (NLT)The Samaritan Woman - upon meeting a Samaritan woman, Jesus told her everything your womanhad ever done. Their knowledge was enough in order to convince her that He had been the Messiah, and His words were enough to persuade many in her town that hes the Living Son of God:"Many Samaritans from the village believed in jesus because the woman had said, He told meeverything we ever did!" john 4:39 (NLT)"You Know Everything" - the actual disciples, who spent more time with Jesus during his earthlyministry than other people, testified that He knows everything - the very definition of omniscience:
  2. 2. "Now we realize that you know everything, and theres you dont need to question you. From this webelieve that you came from God." john 16:30 (NLT)"A third time he asked him, "Simon son of John, do you love me personally" Peter was hurt that Jesusasked the query a third time. He said, Lord, you know everything. You know that i love you." Johntwenty one :17 (NLT)12-Year aged Jesus In The Temple - As a young boy, jesus and His family made a pilgrimage to theTemple in Jerusalem. While there, Jesus astonished the Jewish religious teachers with Hisunderstanding:"three days later they finally discovered him in the temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions. All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and hisanswers." Luke 2 :46-47 (NLT)"how does He Know All This?" - Jesus taught in the temple, and the people were amazed at thedepth of His understanding, since He was not a man educated and trained by men:"Then, midway through the festival, Jesus went up to the Temple as well as began to teach. Thepeople had been surprised when they heard him or her. How does he know so much when he hasntbeen trained? they asked." John 7:14-15 (NLT)"One Of You Will Betray Me" - Jesus had fore-knowledge of His betrayal. He knew that one of themost trusted members of his inner-circle would betray him :"Then Jesus stated, I chose the twelve of you, but one is a devil. He was speaking of Judas, son ofSimon Iscariot, one of the Twelve, who would later betray him." steve 6:70-71 (NLT)Jesus Knew Of His death - Jesus had complete knowledge of His purpose within coming into theworld. He knew what would happen to Him, the hands by which it would happen, and the miraculousevent which may take place three days later :"From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him or her to go toJerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible points at the hands of the elders, the leadingpriests, and the teachers associated with religious law. He would be killed, but on the 3rd day hewould be raised from the dead." Matthew sixteen :21 (NLT)Omnipotent (All-Powerful)A second character characteristic of God is omnipotence. By definition, God is all-powerful. He haspower over all things. Did Jesus of Nazareth exhibit this character trait? History reveals he did.The Power To forgive Sin - According to the old Testament, only God has the power to forgive sins. And the Prophet Jeremiah prophesied during the day when God will eliminate men of theirwickedness and never again remember their sins:"And I will forgive their wickedness, and I wont ever again remember their sins." Jeremiah 31:34(NLT)Yet, in spite of His understanding that only God may forgive sins, Jesus obviously announced Hisown power to eliminate sins, thus revealing themself as God:"seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, My child, your sins tend to be forgiven. Butsome from the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to on their own, What is he
  3. 3. stating This is blasphemy! Only lord can forgive sins!a " Mark 2:5-11 (NLT)Power To Lay Down his Life - Throughout background, men and woman possess died. Despite theimmense energy some of these individuals wielded, not really a single one of them displayed thepower to come back to life once dead. Yet Jesus claimed to have this power:"the daddy loves me because we sacrifice my life so I might take it back again. No one can take mylife from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. With regard to I have the authority to lay it down when I want toalso to take it up again." john 10:17-18 (NLT)Three days and three evenings after His crucifixion, christ of Nazareth exhibited this particular power.Power Over wind and Waves - like one would expect of lord, Jesus of Nazareth experienced powerover wind as well as waves:"When jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the flaming waves. Suddenly the surprise stoppedand all was calm. Then he asked them, Where is your faith? the disciples were terrified as well asamazed. Who is this guy they asked one another. When he gives a command, even the wind andsurf obey him!" lomaz 8:24-25 (NLT)Power Over Fish - similar to His power of the blowing wind and waves, Jesus highlighted His powerover all of creation by commanding the movements of fish:"Then he said, Throw your net on the right-hand aspect of the boat, and youll acquire some ! Sothey did, and they couldnt haul in the internet because there were so many fish in it." John 21:6(NLT)His Breath Blew Down Soldiers - the actual Roman Army is known throughout human history as oneof the most ruthless and powerful fighting causes the world has ever known. Yet, jesus of Nazarethcast Roman soldiers to the ground with the really breath of His mouth :"As Jesus stated I AM he,a they all drew back as well as fell to the ground!" John 18 :6 (NLT)Power over Physical RealmIn addition, the actual miracles of Jesus state to His identity. These people proclaim His power overthe physical universe:"a man with leprosy came as well as knelt in front of Jesus, pleading to be healed. If youre willing, you can heal me and make me clean, he said. Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out andtouched him. I m willing, he said. Be healed! Instantly the actual leprosy disappeared, and the manwas healed." Mark one :40-42 (NLT)"after Jesus left the womens home, two blind men followed along behind him, shouting, Son of david, have mercy on us! They went right into the home where he was staying, and Jesus asked them, Doyou believe I can cause you to see? Yes, head of the family, they told him or her, we do. he thentouched their eyes as well as said, Because of your belief, it will happen. then their eyes wereopened up, and they could see!" Matthew 9 :27-30 (NLT)"one of the men lying there had been ill for thirty-eight years. Whenever Jesus saw him and knew hehad been sick for a long time, he asked him or her, Would you like to get well I cant, sir, the sickman said, for I have no one to put me into the swimming pool when the water bubbles upward.Someone else always gets there ahead of me. jesus told him, Stand upward, pick up your mat, as
  4. 4. well as walk! Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled away his sleeping mat and began walking!"John five :5-17 (NLT)"he saw that they were in severe trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind as well aswaves. About three oclock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He or sheintended to go past all of them, but when they saw him or her walking on the water, they cried out interror, considering he was a ghost." tag 6:48-49 (NLT)And Jesus performed many other miracles which required power over the physical universe, far toomany to become examined here.Omnipresent (Ever-Present)By definition, God is omnipresent. He is everywhere at all times. He exists in all places in the past, present, and long term. Can this be said of christ Did Jesus of Nazareth really exhibit this charactertrait? Yes. He do."I Saw a person Under The Fig Tree" - Upon first meeting Nathanael, Jesus proclaimed that He sawhim under the fig tree earlier that day. His statement mesmerized Nathanael, who acknowledged thisas knowledge which no other man could have. But Jesus was there. As the omnipresent Spirit of lord,He was present whenever Nathanael was under the fig tree:"As they approached, Jesus said, Now here is a genuine son of Israel - a man of total integrity. Howare you aware about me? Nathanael asked. Jesus replied, I could see you under the fig tree beforePhilip found you. Then Nathanael exclaimed, Rabbi, you are the son of God - the King of Israel! "John 1:47-49 (NLT)The Holy Spirit - God is Spirit, and also the Spirit of God became flesh in the name associated withJesus of Nazareth:"In the beginning the Word already been around. The Word was with lord, and the Word was lord. Heexisted in the beginning along with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was madeexcept through him. The word gave life to exactly what was created, and his life introduced light toeveryone. The light shines in the darkness, and also the darkness can never extinguish it." John 1:1-5(NLT)Be With You Always -- Reminding them of his omnipresence, Jesus assured his disciples He wouldalways be together, even to the end of the grow older :"And be sure of this : I am with you always, even going to the end of the age." Matthew 28:20 (NLT)This unique ability to be present along with each individual (not just the twelve disciples, but all thatbelieve in Him), at all times throughout history, is demonstrative from the omnipresence of Jesus.Him Who Fills All - In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul testifies that christ "fills all things everywherealong with himself":"And the church is his body; its made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere withhimself." Ephesians 1 :23 (NLT)EternalYet an additional characteristic of God is His eternal nature. Lord is not bound by time or death. He isthe foremost and the Last, the Alpha and also the Omega. According to the Old testament, there is no
  5. 5. other God:"This is what the Lord says - Israels King and Redeemer, the Lord of Heavens Armies: I am the Firstand the final ; there is no other God.a " Isaiah 44:6 (NLT)Does this character characteristic describe Jesus of Nazareth? The Apostle John testified yes:"When I noticed him, I fell from his feet as if i were dead. But he or she laid his right hands on me andsaid, Dont be afraid! I am the first and the Last." Revelation one :17 (NLT)What did Jesus Say?So far, weve examined the evidence as recorded by the Old testomony prophets and the Newtestomony witnesses. But what do Jesus Himself have to state about this subject? If were truly therighteous spiritual teacher and holy guy many claim Him to be, would He call himself God if to do sohad been false? Of course not. Yet this is just what Jesus claimed. On numerous occasions, Heunequivocally mentioned that He is God Almighty. The Father and I Are One - Jesus Himself claimed to become equal with God:"The Father and I are one." john 10:30 (NLT)Before Abraham, I AM - according to the Old Testament, when Moses requested to the know thename of God, the Almighty replied "I AM":"however Moses protested, If time passes to the people of Israel and tell them, The god of yourancestors has sent me to you, theyll ask me, What is his name? then what should I tell them?a Godreplied to Moses, I AM WHO i am. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM offers sent me to you. "Exodus 3:13-14 (NLT)In answering His experts, Jesus proclaimed Himself to be "I AM":"Jesus clarified, I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, i am !" John 8:58 (NLT)"Philip, dont you Know Me?" - whenever Philip asked to see the daddy, Jesus plainly told him or herhe had already seen the daddy. To look upon Jesus, would be to look upon the Father:"Jesus replied, Have i been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still dont know who I am?Anyone who has seen me has seen the daddy ! So why are you asking me to show him to you?a "John 14:9 (NLT)You Will See the boy of Man on Clouds of Heaven - While standing before the High Priest to becomeinterrogated, Jesus was asked who He was. NO one with knowledge of the Old testament scripturescan mistake his response:"Jesus responded, You have said it. As well as in the future you will see the boy of Man seated in theplace of power at Gods correct hand and coming on the clouds of heaven. " Matthew 26:64 (NLT)By claiming they would observe Him seated in the host to power at Gods correct hand, Jesus wasproclaiming Himself to be the Lord of the Old Testament:"god, the father said to my Lord, Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until we humble yourenemies, making them a footstool under your ft." Psalm 110:one (NLT)By claiming theyd see Him coming on the clouds of heaven, jesus was proclaiming Himself to be theOne whose rule is actually eternal:"As my personal vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds
  6. 6. of heaven. He or she approached the Ancient one and was led in to his presence. He was handedauthority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every competitionand nation and language would obey him. Their rule is eternal - it will never end. His kingdom willnever be destroyed." Daniel 7:13-14 (NLT)Jesus proclaimed Himself to be the one and only God Himself.Accepts worship From Others Without Rebuke - In addition to His statements, what Jesus didnt statehas a lot to say about His identity. For example, Jesus clearly stated a person must only praise God:"Get from here, Satan, christ told him. For the Scriptures say, You should worship the Lord your lordand serve only him or her." Matthew 4:ten (NLT)Yet, when people worshipped Jesus or fell down at His feet or even called Him Lord, he did notrebuke them. He or she did not respond to them through saying, "Im only a guy. Dont worship me."instead, He perpetuated the notion that he should be honored like god the Father:"He has given the Son absolute authority to judge, so that everyone may honor the Son, just as theyhonor the Father." john 5:22-23 (NLT)The following examples show jesus accepting this high compliment and honor:"My Lord and my god ! Thomas exclaimed. After that Jesus told him, You believe because you haveseen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me. " John 20:28-29 (NLT)"Suddenly, a man along with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. Lord, the man said, ifyou are willing, you can heal me and make me thoroughly clean." Matthew 8:two (NLT)"But she came and worshiped him, pleading again, Lord, help me !" Matthew 15:25 (NLT)"And as these people went, Jesus met them and greeted them. Plus they ran to him, understood hisfeet, and worshiped him." Matthew 28:9 (NLT)"Yes, lord, I believe! the man stated. And he worshiped Jesus." steve 9:38 (NLT)In each of these instance, human beings offered Jesus praise, honor, and titles worthy of God on itsown. And He gladly accepted their praise. What Did lord Almighty Say?If christ were the only witness of His divinity, then He really should not be believed. But Hes not theonly real witness. His Father in heaven also testified to the identity of Jesus of Nazareth:"And a tone of voice from heaven said, This is my dearly cherished Son, who brings me great joy."Matthew 3:17 (NLT)I Will Share My glory With No OneThe Old testomony clearly documents Gods purpose to share His glory with no one else:"im the Lord; that is my title ! I will not give my personal glory to anyone else, nor share my praisewith carved idols." Isaiah forty two :8 (NLT)In fact, one of the ten commandments prohibits worship of false gods:"You must not have any other god but me." Exodus 20:3 (NLT)If God will not share their glory with anyone else, after that by definition, Jesus associated withNazareth can not share in their glory. Unless, of course, christ and God are one and also the same. And this is the placement put forth by the Creator of the Universe:
  7. 7. Gods Voice SpeaksGod testified before men that he would bring glory towards the name of Jesus:"Father, bring glory for your name. Then a voice spoke from heaven, stating, I have already broughtglory to my name, and that i will do so again.a " John 12:28 (NLT)And Jesus spoke from the glory they share:"Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began." steve 17:5 (NLT)Following the birth of jesus, a host of angels praised god in full sight of men, this provides you withglory to Jesus:"Suddenly, the angel had been joined by a vast host of others - the armies of heaven - praising Godand saying, Glory to God in greatest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom god ispleased." lomaz 2:13-14 (NLT)John also testifies to the beauty of Jesus:"we now have seen his glory, the actual glory of the Fathers one and only Son." John 1:14 (NLT)Its the same beauty God proclaimed He would give to His son in the aged Testament:"The king proclaims the Lords decree: The Lord said to me, You are my son. Today I have becomeyour father." Psalm 2:seven (NLT)How could god glorify Jesus, and stay true to His word to never give His glory in order to anyone else, unless giving glory to Jesus is the same as providing glory to God?ConclusionThe characteristics of God, just about all shared by Jesus associated with Nazareth, reflect thefulfillment of an Old Testament prediction - a promise to the world. God promised a sign, that thevirgin would conceive a kid, a boy whose title means God is with all of us, meaning He would be Godin the flesh:"All right then, the Lord themself will give you the sign. Look ! The virgin will newborn child! She willgive birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means God is with us)." Isaiah 7:fourteen (NLT)This prophecy had been fulfilled in the birth of Jesus of Nazareth:"As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. Joseph, son of David,a theangel said, do not be afraid to take mary as your wife. For the child within her was created by theHoly Spirit. And she or he will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his peoplefrom their sins. all this occurred to fulfill the Lords message through his prophet: Look! The virginmay conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means Godis with us." Matthew 1:20-23 (NLT)Yet, despite this miraculous sign, and the miraculous life which adopted, most of the world has failedto recognize the Creator among them. They Did Not Recognize HimThis may be the message of the Gospel of John. God came into the planet in human form, yet thevery world He produced failed to recognize Him:"He came into the very world he created, but the globe didnt recognize him." steve 1:10 (NLT)Even those who lay claim to the actual wisdom of this world failed to recognize their own Creator:
  8. 8. "But the rulers of this globe have not understood it; when they had, they would not have crucified ourglorious Lord." one Corinthians 2:8 (NLT)Even many self-proclaimed christian believers fail to recognize the true identity of Jesus of Nazareth. He is the Christ, the lord of lords, and full of kings. He is the actual Alpha and the Omega, the startand the end.Dont repeat the mistakes of those who refuse to acknowledge the glory of Jesus of Nazareth. Hesmore than a holy man, a prophet, and a teacher. Hes God among us.Jeremiah 29
