1. Food and Nutrition Procedures
Our school has a strong commitment to the health and well-being of the members of its
community. These procedures aim to develop and promote positive attitudes to healthy eating
practices.
Purposes:
1 To establish and ensure the maintenance of healthy eating practices.
2 To actively promote the National Food and Nutrition Guidelines.
3 To ensure that there is a consistent approach within the school to healthy nutrition.
Guidelines:
Programmes:
• Programmes will encourage students to take responsibility for their own health.
Food and Beverage Choice:
• Healthy foods, as outlined by the Food and Nutrition Guidelines, should be provided
wherever possible, so that members of the community can make appropriate choices.
• The school will discourage the consumption of highly processed foods and foods
high in fat, sugar, salt.
• Clean and chilled drinking water will be available at all times and will be advocated as
the best drinking option.
• Students will be encouraged to bring water sippers to classes.
• Students are able to eat in class where this is non-intrusive and of a ‘snack’ nature.
Food Safety:
• Any food prepared, sold, stored and/or distributed through the school will be
managed within the health and safety guidelines and requirements. Guidelines and
procedures on food safety will be developed and implemented by the Food Tutor and
will be applicable to all within the school community.
