• Please Announce : Most folk of the Christian faith know that “LENT” is the 40 days (excluding Sundays) set aside for prayer, fasting, and other personal spiritual preparation for the EASTER celebration . Lent always begins on “Ash Wednesday” – the day after “Mardi Gras.” This year that will be on March 9th . The Religious Education Center is offering FREE material for adults and children to help guide us through this special season. Materials will be available from the Religious Education Center, the Post Chapels, and the Religious Support Office. You may call the Religious Education Center at 791-4703.
• JEWISH FAITH GROUP BIBLE STUDY The Fort Gordon Jewish Faith Group hosts a weekly Bible study, following the Torah portion of the week. . . . . and everyone is welcome to come!! The group meets on Fridays at 12:00, Noon, in Ike’s Café, 3rd Floor DDEAMC, in the Conference Room near the windowed area. This is be a “brown bag lunch” forum. You’re welcome to grab something from Ike’s or bring your own. Books are provided. For more information of other details, contact Jon Shoenholz, Fort Gordon’s Jewish Distinctive Faith Group Leader, at 787-1353, or [email_address]

• Converted both of our gas stations (Shoppettes at Gate 1 and Gate 5) from selling conventional fuel to E10 (10% Ethanol). This decision was heavily weighted with both my HQ and our Fuel Suppliers throughout the GA and SC areas. We made the conversion to E10 the 2 nd of February 2011. Our HQ was notified that the fuel terminal that supplies fuel to our locations in Georgia and South Carolina had to change to E10 by mid-February (they also supply other gas stations in GA and SC, not just AAFES/Exchange) as there would no longer be anyone in the area that would be supplying conventional fuel. Before we converted, we surveyed 25 Fuel stations surrounding Ft Gordon (All gates) and found that 95% of the gas stations were already selling E10 and a few selling E85. Those few gas stations that are selling conventional fuel now will soon have to convert this year due to current EPA (RFS) Renewable Fuel Standard Program signed in 2006 and the Energy Independence and Security Act signed in 2007 to meet Federal/EPA renewable fuel quotas. It is not mandatory and required of states to sell E10, however they are mandated a specific amount of renewable (ethanol) fuel to be sold within each state. More than 60% of the country's fuel now contains ethanol and this is expected to rapidly increase this year. Bottom line: Fuel Suppliers just cannot afford to store both conventional fuel and E10, so one by one they have converted their supply to E10 or E85 to meet the federal/state EPA requirements. Gas Stations must convert if the fuel supply availability is no longer there. We delayed this transition as long as we could, but when we ran out of Fuel in Jan for half a day at one of our shoppettes due to the supplier not being able to get conventional fuel, I had to talk to the fuel center and suppliers about the fuel; as it is unacceptable to run out of fuel for our customers. Pricing: It is about the same as conventional fuel and we are competitively priced. We survey 8 Gas Stations (only required to survey 5) surrounding Ft Gordon for our pricing twice a day/ 7 days a week. At the same time, the Exchange converted to a new world wide fuel purchasing system that was implemented at the beginning of this month that allows for fuel suppliers to provide fuel competitively to us and reduces added costs to Exchange gas stations. This has had hiccups this month that has caused delays in receiving fuel from suppliers that has affected customers waiting time. Our HQ and the suppliers have assured us that they are working to correct this and will be on track each day to ensure seamless fuel service for our customers.

70. 76. Welcome to Fort Gordon's first ever ‘Facebook Town Hall’ 1830-1930, 15 MAR 11, on Fort Gordon's Official Facebook ( http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Fort-Gordon-Garrison/153690448019215?sk=app_4949752878 ). Fort Gordon's Garrison Commander and Directors from across the installation will be on hand to answer questions you might have about this great installation we call home. So...what kind of things are we going to talk about? Living on Fort Gordon, Moving, PCSing, Youth Services, Elementary School Local Area, Housing, What’s up at the Gates, How to put in a work order to get something fixed in your house, Places to get information online, traffic, construction, Signal School updates. Community Town Hall
71. 77. So...how is this going to work? At 6:30 p.m. we will post to our wall the first message welcoming everyone to the town hall. COL Kennedy will then invite you to ask a question, post a concern or compliment by hitting 'comment'. Please DO NOT POST QUESTIONS TO THE WALL. Only post your question, concern or compliment by hitting 'comment' on COL Kennedy's original post . Remember ... Fort Gordon's Leadership cares deeply about providing our Military Members and Families with the best quality of life possible. However, when we have problems or challenges along the way…… We want to use this forum as a way to turn those challenges into positives. Please let us know if something is frustrating you, but please try to do it in a constructive way. Community Town Hall
72. 78. Conversation screening.... Remember that this is our first time using Facebook for a forum like this. There is a good chance that we may get a lot of folks joining in on the conversation. So we may have to remove comments or posts that are not relevant or are redundant or germane to the discussion. This does not mean we will censor; it means we will screen the conversations to maximize the value of the discussion. Need more privacy? You can send us an issue sheet using the template at www.gordon.army.mil , under “NOTICES”; “Town Hall.” Email the form to GORD.BEHEARD@conus.army.mil. We need to receive your email by 3 p.m. EST in order to get it addressed at the Town Hall. (We will not be able to monitor email during the discussion.) Any emails we receive after 3 p.m. EST will be sent to the appropriate agency for action after 15 March 2011 Community Town Hall
73. 79. So...what are the other rules? “ KEEP IT REAL ” • We appreciate and invite your honest comments. Tell us what’s working, what needs improvement, and what services are exceptional. " KEEP IT CLEAN ” • We want you to be honest, but we need the conversations to be constructive. Let’s use these conversations to solve problems, not create more. We will remove any posts that are abusive or use profanity. “ KEEP IT TO AN HOUR ” • The subject matter experts that we’ll have answering questions or providing information will only have an hour to spend with us. “ KEEP IT IN MIND ” • This is a new effort, so we may experience some growing pains along the way. Please be patient with us. Some questions we can answer on the spot, some we’ll have to look into and get you the answers. Community Town Hall
