It happens so because the requirements of software, which isinstalled onto them, get higher and higher. The software is becoming more demanding, and still it becomesable to perform more complicate tasks and enables us to put certain amount of work onto computer’sshoulders. Today many people try to buy some new versions of PCs with up-to-date configuration whichmight enable them to resolve everyday issues and serve as a powerful platform for multimedia purposes.Yet, new versions of computers come out every now and then – and sometimes, when someone decides tobuy a top-new PC, the one is already not top and not new on the moment of purchase. Technologies aremoving ahead really quickly, and the decision of buying a new PC once it appears in the market, can justruin your budget entirely – in other words, you’ll have to buy a new computer every month. This is notreally necessary – that’s why it is not always necessary to have the latest model of top Intel quad-core CPUs– a general user just doesn’t have applications to load such CPU to at least 30% of its potential possibilities.Keeping to golden middle is always the best choice under such circumstances.But there is another end of the stick concerning up-to-date software and its usage. The newer targetsoftware is, the more system resources are required to be sacrificed to its usage. This is normal – becausetoday you are not likely to find someone using Windows 95/98/Millennium and sometimes even XPversions – Windows 7 and beta-version of Windows 8 are taking their positions in today’s IT world as mostwidely used operating systems (Vista is not mentioned here because it’s considered to be a very unluckysystem by most of users). And if you compare the system resources which, for example, Windows XP andWindows 7 use on the same machine – you’ll see that they don’t use the same amount of systemresources.
  • 6. To illustrate this, we have installed two versions of Windows OS on a target PC in order to make anexperiment – which of them will eat more resources and considerable will the difference be. Below are thecharacteristics of the computer which was used for our purposes:Target PCCPU – Intel Core i3 2120 3300 MHz, with Sandy Bridge architecture and integrated 1100 MHz video chipsetMotherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77XRAM – GoodRAM DDR3 2x2048 Mb, 1333 MHzThe results of Windows XP RAM and CPU usage are the following: CPU usage when idle – 0-1%, RAM usage(when system is launched but still idle) – 240-244 Mb out of 4 GB availableThe results of Windows 7 RAM and CPU usage are the following: CPU usage when idle – 1-7%, RAM usage(when system is launched but still idle) – 759-763 Mb out of 4 GB availableBy this simple example it can be seen how different versions of Windows OS can influence the usage ofsystem resources when installed on the same PC. Both of abovementioned Windows operating systems areknown to be reliable, they already became practically legendary because of their outstanding stability andusability. And still – difference is really considerable.The problem is that not many people are able to buy a new computer every three months. And that is quitenormal – there is no need in this, and there is no need even to buy it after a year or two of usage of theprevious one – there’s just no common sense in it. The primary reason of any human, when he or she isbuying a PC, should be the following: what is this PC for?The answer to this question is really vita – just because it predetermines the hardware of the future PC (forexample, a gamer’s PC should surely have a good video card, a sound producer’s workstation is sure tohave a good sound card either). And here comes the most interesting and most basic part of ourinvestigation: after some time of usage computer begins to slow down. As a rule, it makes user reallyfrustrated and ready to throw the PC immediately and buy a new one. This would resolve the problem, butwith certain financial investments, which are not necessary – because such a problem can easily beresolved without buying a new PC. Below we have listed most popular problems due to which PC begins tobe slow-working: 1) With the time flow, the software you’re using requires more and more system resources. It means that the requirements of RAM and CPU usage are growing, while physical resources remain the same – and a moment comes when the systems is running out of free RAM, and it begins to use the HDD swap file (a special area on the HDD, which is reserved by Windows and becomes used as RAM when the physical RAM is over), and that slows the PC speed down dramatically. In case the CPU is too weak to work with some fresh software, it begins to freeze on 100% usage and no one may predict how long such freezing can last – it’s easier to restart the PC and forget about the problem. Trojans, worms, key loggers, spyware, adware and many other types of malicious software slow the PC down awfully. If you have no antivirus program and are connected to Internet – be sure that you’ve got at least on virus on the HDD of your PC. Manufacturers determine the price of the chip according to its frequency, but still – every chiphas some operating reserve, which is available but never used. The voltage, which is given upon the chip, isvery accurate – up to 0.001 volts (that’s why, actually, it’s dangerous to perform the operation ofoverclocking on one’s own, without the help of some specialist). Once you raise the voltage, the actualfrequency of the chip becomes a little higher. The voltage is increased on and on, until the moment, whenyou start to have lags on the screen, which evidence that the frequency is up to maximum and it should belowered a bit.For example, here we show you the results of overclocking with CPU-Z of the given machine:Initially: The results:CPU – Intel Core i3 2120 3300 MHz, with Sandy Bridgearchitecture and integrated 1100 MHz video chipset CPU speed is risen from 3300 MHz to 3584MHz per core – the performance has risen perceptiblyMotherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77X RAM frequency has risen from 1333 MHz to 1461 MHz – actually, it could be even higher, but we had notRAM – GoodRAM DDR3 2x2048 Mb, 1333 MHz enough time to make experimentsIn such a way, basing upon this principle and using certain specialized software (which, by the way, isabsolutely free), you can considerably improve the performance of your PC. Still, overclocking is not really ashort topic, and here we just have no opportunity to study all its aspects. Also, remember that if you useonly overclocking methods of improving the speed of your PC, this will only be a temporary decision –because all the measures should be complex. Software methods listed below are much more effective.Usually, they are exactly those tools which you need in order to make your PC work faster, and neverbecome slow-performing again.

Speaking more accurately – about Windows OS problems. Because Windows is a very popular,but a very specific operating system. The file system used in it, its architecture and some other featuresmake it dependable upon constant clean-ups and antivirus scanners, which should work constantly. Themost popular and effective kinds of resolving Windows-related issues are following:Getting rid of useless dataOnce the operating system becomes installed onto the computer, user slowly starts to garbage it. They are the first andforemost things to do when getting down to repair your PC.It’s also advisable to perform all abovementioned actions one after another, without doing any breaks – itconcerns also all other actions, mentioned here. The next step isChecking PC for virusesAs it was already mentioned, more than a half of computers all over the world are infected with at leastone kind of virus. People, who don’t use an antivirus and still do browse the Internet, are practically sure tohave one or another kind of virus. Viruses should be determined as malicious software, which is written tosteal personal data, passwords, media, gain hidden remote control over the victim’s PC and do many othermalicious actions.
