  2. 2. Where is Portugal situated? Portugal is situated in the southwestern Europe.
  3. 3. Which countries are next to it? Portugal is surrounded by Atlantic Ocean and Spain.
  4. 4. Regions and islands Portugal is constitued by three main regions: North, Centre and South. And by two archipelagos.
  5. 5. Main cities in Portugal The capital of Portugal is the city of Lisbon. Porto is the second capital of the country. It is called too the “Capital of North”.

  7. 7. Population of Portugal: 10 619 303 Comparing • France has 6 times more population; • The USA has 30 times more population; • Cape Verde has 22 times less population.
  8. 8. Portuguese Discoveries During some years, Portugal was one of the most important countries in the world because of its conquests and discoveries all over the world.
  9. 9. Colonization In consequence of Portuguese Discoveries, Portugal has colonized some countries expanding its culture in the world.
  10. 10. 1910 – Republican Revolution Until 1910, Portugal was a monarchy. After the 5th October 1910’s revolution, Portugal became a Republic.
  11. 11. Carnation Revolution 25th April 1974 – Carnation Revolution which ended up with the regime of Estado Novo. It was a pacific revolution in which the soldiers put carnation flowers in the top of their weapons.
  12. 12. Portugal in Europe Portugal is a member of the European Union since 1986.

  38. 38. Cost of living in Portugal The cost of living in Portugal isn’t expensive and the prices are, in general, 80% or less of the United Kingdom equivalent prices.
  39. 39. Other curiosities about Portugal Portugal is very well-know in the world thanks to “Fado”, a type of music very characteristic of our country. The Queen of this type of music was Amália Rodrigues, a very good singer.
