    • Service Objective The HealthAlliance Medical Library services the entire hospital community including the medical, nursing, and allied health staffs. The medical library also serves patients, students and members of the local community. The medical library is an active participant in the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and other regional consortia for resource sharing.

    • State of the Library Report 1997/98  Both library facilities and collections in deplorable condition. 5th floor.  Outdated book collection. Journal subscriptions canceled for two years.  All resource sharing services had ceased.  Very limited Online searching/ No Internet.  Library was considered inactive.  Pharmacy now occupies the area.
    • State of Library Report 1998/99.  Collections weeded, New Books Ordered.  Journal titles ordered/updated.  Interlibrary loan services reinstated.  Online Bibliographic Lit. Searches  Current Awareness Service.  Mediated Internet Access. (Leominster)  Fax Service Available.  Commendation from Mass. Med. Society.
    • JCAHO Survey- January 1999  Library passed-no deficiencies. Mr. Cronin Administrative Surveyor.  Recommendations: Consumer Health Facility, TQM/CQI materials.  Telemedicine-Awareness.
    • October 1999 Library Moves  As new facilities came online within hospital, space was needed for other Patient Care departments.  Medical Library temporarily moved into a tiny resource room near the cafeteria and overflow was moved into Burbank Hospital Medical library.  8 years! 1999-2007 in resource room.
    • Leominster Collection MAIN BRANCH South 2  Mediated Online Literature Searching.  Pubmed / Infotrac/ StatRef  Wi-Fi Internet Access.  Index Medicus (Pubmed Online) / CINAHL- Ebsco Host.  Main Library 500+ current books, 100 active journal titles. Medicine / Nursing /Allied Health.  Online Inter-Library Loan Service ( 1 week)  Consumer Health Library  Free Internet access - Reference Texts, Encyclopedias, Patient Care Literature. [Omnigraphics textbook Series]

    • Burbank Collection  Closed in 2006.  Entire collection was transferred to Leominster Campus after Medical Library’s move to South 2 in Early March of 2007.

    • Medline Searches/ Nursing CINAHL  Mediated computerized literature searches using the National Library of Medicine data bases (MEDLINE / HEALTH) are available. PubMed  www.pubmed.gov  CINAHL- Available on EBSCO HOST on the medical library’s Intranet pages.
    • Services: Inter-Library Loan  Journal articles and books available for loan from other libraries.  Delivery time varies:  Same day for articles from journals the library has by subscription.  3-6 business days local requests, usually free.  1-2 weeks for Govt.. Documents/ Out of State  Major Resource Libraries--Fee For Service (Boston College, Harvard Med., U. Mass. Medical Center--$15.00 mail. $24.00 + fax.)
    • Service:Notary Public  Medical librarian is a licensed NOTARY PUBLIC for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Please call/visit the medical library if you have any documents to be notarized.  LIBRARY DOES NOT PROVIDE LEGAL ADVICE.
    • Services AV  Medical Librarian promotes live broadcasts of JCST-TV specialty programming hospital wide.  For academic credit  Popular topics (ACLS, and Hosp. Management, CDC, NIH, U. S. Army Surgical Service.)  Opportunity to question experts live by direct call in.  Service will END in December 2008.
