  • In 2009, VMware created the “Journey” framework, based on what we learned from extensive global customer research, to reflect how our customers progressively evolve their IT infrastructures from traditional physical environments to more agile, efficient, virtualized and cloud environments. In Phase 1 of the Journey, customers leverage virtualization to reduce CapEx by consolidating existing server hardware investments, abstracting and poolinghardware resources with software to use them more efficiently across the data center. In Phase 2, customers reduce OpEx by applying virtualization across the data center, including business-critical applications, achieving a more optimized operational model with automation and higher degrees of management. And in Phase 3, continued use of automation, the introduction of self-service, on-demand, policy-driven capabilities, and the evolution of core processes enable IT to achieve an IT as a service model, resulting in further OpEx reductions and increased IT agility. As we’ve been testing and talking to our customers over time, we’ve been monitoring their progress against this Journey.Perhaps the best metric that we’ve used for the early parts of this Journey have been how virtualized new workloads are. The most recent IDC data published in February 2013 is a good monitor of the progress that we’re making. <click> In 2008 47% of new apps were being virtualized.In2012, 71% of new applications were being virtualized. Our vision is to reach100%
  • The ROI for customers on the Journey is striking, both in CapEx and OpEx.VMware’s virtualization platform is proven to deliver the lowest TCO. TCO studies prove that virtualizing with VMware software costs less than with the competition (see http://www.vmware.com/getthefacts/microsoft/vmware-deliversgreater-value.html). VMware solutions optimize hardware utilization, provide superior management and policy-based automation, and enable a highly available and resilient infrastructure that minimizes downtime and its resulting impact. By freeing your resources to innovate for the business and drive growth, while also providing the most capable platform for your cloud initiatives, VMware delivers unparalleled efficiency, with lower cost and greater business value than any other virtualization solution.
