  • 1. • Family name : Rolihlahla Mandela • Born : July 18, 1918 • Birth Place: Mvezo, South Africa • Father: Principal counsellor to the Acting King of the Thembu people • Became a ward after fathers death • Dream and Inspiration
  • 2. • School: Primary School in Qunu • Name: Nelson • University: B.A (University College of Fort Hare) • Expelled • Completed B.A from University of South Africa • Worked as Mine Security Officer • Joined the African National Congress in 1944
  • 3. • Obtained an LLB through the University of South Africa • He fought against Apartheid • System of racial segregation that separated blacks from whites • Known as “the most famous prisoner in the world”
  • 4. • Sentenced to life imprisonment on 11 June 1964 • charges of sabotage • Released on 11 February 1990 • 27 years in prison • Elected ANC President in 1991 • Inaugurated South Africa’s first democratically elected President on 10 May 1994
