  • 2. Snaffle Bit
    • A bit where the headstall, keeper and reins all attach to one ring and are free-moving
    • Uses direct pressure, not leverage
  • 3. Curb Bit
    • A bit where the headstall, curb chain and reins attach at different locations
    • Uses leverage
  • 4. 2-Yr-Old Futurity
    • Legal Equipment
      • Smooth snaffle
        • Mouthpiece at least 5/16” diameter, measured 1” from corner of mouthpiece
        • 3-piece connecting ring of 1¼” or less diameter or connecting flat bar of 3/8” to ¾” (top to bottom) with a maximum length of 2” is acceptable
        • Rings no larger than 4” diameter
        • Leather keeper strap acceptable – attached below reins
        • Split reins mandatory

      • Any bit with fixed rein requires curb chain
      • Curb chain must be at least ½” in width and lie flat
