ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN – VI : Hotel Cum Resort ( Case Study : Le Méridien Al Aqah ) Le Méridien Al Aqah : ServicesSECURITY:•There is a automatic security system in the building.• The security guards are present 24 hrs• CCTV cameras are installed over the parking areas and entrances & corridors• It has 4 service lifts & 3 guest lifts along with 2 Emergency staircasesFIRE PROTECTION:•Every room contains the smoke detectors, the detectors detect the smoke and alarms throughout the floor.• When the alarm rings, the duct in the room automatically shuts down so as to prevent the spreading of the smoke• If the temp gets too high, the valve bursts and the water starts sprinkling.• Every floor is provided with a fire extinguisher• The building has 2 emergency staircases which have a width of 100cmsWATER SUPPLY:•There are 2 tanks provided for the building, one is at the top on the terrace floor & other one in the servicebuilding• The pump room is located in the service building• Water is pumped up to the water tank (located at terrace floor ) with some pressure & then this water is furtherdistributed by gravity.AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM:•Centralized air condition system is used• A.C Units are placed on Terrace floor.• There are 5 chiller units.•Cooling is done through an arrangement of small pipes where the cold water travels in them•When the blowers blows off through this water it produces cool air.VENTILATION:• Open To Sky is used• It’s a common ventilation that contains the ducts of the kitchen and toilet which is open to sky when u see fromit to the top..

Substation room consists of a transformerthat converts the high voltage current to low voltage current. Every floor has been provided with electricrooms through which electricity is distributed to each flats.• Generator room is located in service building which consists of a generator which starts working oncethe electricity goes off.WASTE DISPOSAL :•Waste water tank & Filtered water tank are placed in service building.•Waste water is the water obtained from sinks , bath tub, shower etc which is stored in waste water tank.• Waste water is treated in the filter room where all unwanted suspended material is removed & thenstored in Filtered water tank•Filtered water is further re-used for gardening flushing etc.SEWAGE SYSTEM :• The sewage treatment plant is located in service building• Sewage from the hotel is conveyed through pipes which is further treated.• After treatment, sewage sludge are used as fertilizer while treated effluents are used for gardening.HOUSEKEEPING & LAUNDRY :• Housekeeping in a hotel is a very physically demanding job that includes many & varied tasks.• Housekeeping includes making beds, tidying rooms, cleaning toilets, washing floors & vacuuming byhouse keepers.• Laundry room is a room meant for Laundry processes which include washing, drying and ironing.•The washing will often be done at a temperature above room temperature to increase the activities ofany chemicals used.• Have separate washing machines for white & colored clothes• Have a huge machine which washes, dries & folds the bed sheet by itself.
