Social networking siteAbbreviated as SNS a social networking site is the phrase used to describe any Web site that enables users to createpublic profiles within that Web site and form relationships with other users of thesame Web site who access their profile. Social networking sites can be used todescribe community-based Web sites, online discussions forums, chatrooms andother social spaces online.See also social network.A social networking site is a website where individuals can set up an online profile, describing his/herinterests, and add links to other profiles. Generally, users are able to post personalinformation, including photographs, videos, and blog entries. One suchsite, MySpace, has been extremely popular both with individuals and with musicgroups, who can post their songs on their profile pages and advertise their tourdates. Many bands will attempt to solicit as many "friends" as possible on thesesites, so that more people will be aware of their music.Sites for social networking are popular with people all over the world, particularlyteenagers and people in their 20s. Because it is so popular with teenagers, somepeople are concerned that teenagers and kids who post personal information onthese sites are at risk of being solicited by pedophiles. As a result, some sites havetaken precautions to monitor the information provided by underage patrons;however, there is no way to enforce proof of age or identity, so this issue iscurrently unresolved.Social networking sites can be a great way to stay in touch with a large group ofpeople. If you have news youd like to share with everyone you know, you cansimply post it on your own personal bulletin board, and it will be distributed toeveryone on your friends list. These sites can also be helpful for connecting withnew people, whether on a business, friendship, or a romantic level. On some social networking sites, you can only make a connectionwith someone who is already linked to people that you have claimed asfriends. On others, it is possible to contact anyone you like. However,
  • some people claim to make their profiles private, and available only topeople they select as their friends. This can be a wise decision, particularly if you have information available on a site that you wouldnot want the general public, such as a family member or an employer, tosee.Effects of Social Networking Sites A social networking site is described as a website where individuals can set up anonline profile, describing his/her interests”( Ebony pg.1). Your cell phonemight not always work so a lot of people turn to other means of communication, which is where social networking comes into play. Sites such as face book, myspace, and twitter give people the opportunity to communicate with otherindividuals. These sites are also used for social events that you may want people toattend. People then invite others to that event which gives them the option to clickattend, not attend, or maybe if they aren’t sure if they’re going to make it or not. This use of communication definitely comes in handy when it comes down toinvitations because people may not always have a phone to send out invites. Andmailing invitations can sometimes take too long depending on how many peopleyou plan on inviting to this event. This shows that there are definitely positivesides to social networking. Along with the positives comes some negativeeffects of social networking in our society today. “Social networking is Ironical inits name because it doesn’t bring people closer but creates big gaps in relationshipswith people who really matter the most in our life”. Everything about it lies on the advantages and disadvantages of social networking, and what it can do for you. Here are the advantages that can be more than enough for you to want to join in. Low Costs Definitely, its cheaper to use online social networking for both personal and business use because most of it is usually free. While personal use is rather simple for anyone, the business functions are underestimated by many. In a social networking site, you can scout out potential customers and target markets with just a few clicks and keystrokes, adding a boost to your usual advertisements and promotional strategies. It lets you learn about their likes and dislikes, which is tremendous. If you want to fine tune your business, then this is the way to go, whether on a budget or not. Builds Credibility You definitely can gain the customers confidence if you can connect to them on both a personal and professional level. Despite having to do a bit of work, it definitely

As long as you dont pursue them too aggressively, you will do well here.ConnectionsYou are friends with people who have other friends, and so on. There is potential insuch a common situation. By using a social networking site, you can do what you canand get connected with these people to form a web of connections that can give youleverage if you play your cards right. As long as you give as well as you recieve, thenthey will most likely stick with you. These connections are definitely valuable in thelong run. That definitely sounds enticing. However, what about the disadvantages though?Lack of AnonymityYou are putting out information about your name, location, age, gender, and manyother types of information that you may not want to let others know.
