La industrial editorial, con la aparición del libro digital, está cambiando. Son necesarios nuevos modelos de negocio, alternativos a los tradicionales basados en copia, que permitan evitar/reducir la piratería, aprovechar las posibilidades que ofrece la tecnología (marketing online, social media, interactividad lector/autor, nuevas formas de edición...), y a su vez seguir generando ingresos para autores y editoriales. El objetivo del taller es presentar y generar debate sobre estos nuevos modelos y, en concreto, sobre los modelos freemium o de suscripción, que han demostrado su viabilidad en las industrias cinematográfica y musical (con ejemplos como Netflix o Spotify) y que empresas como 24symbols ya están trasladando al mundo editorial.
