December 16, 2010 Page 2 SmartSantander – Overview Smart Santander aims at providing a European experimental test facility for the research and experimentation of architectures, key enabling technologies, services and applications for the Internet of Things (IoT) in the context of the smart city. Smart Santander Highlights Targeting: Researchers End users Service providers Duration 36 months Consortium 15 Organisations 8 EU countries + AU Budget / Funding 8.00 M€ /6.00 M€ Resources 800 PM 20.000 IoT devices
  3. 3. December 16, 2010 Page 3 The actors are the actual users of the SmartSantander facility: Service Providers and Application Developers are high-levelusers using the testbed facility to create higher-level services based on data extracted from the sensor network. Service Consumers are users of the applications/services deployed on the SmartSantander system by the high-level users i.e. Service Providers. FIRE users are low-level users such as researchers intending to develop test and optimize novel algorithms, protocols, implementations and applications. System Administrators – The SmartSantander system and network administrators who are responsible for configuring the system. SmartSantander – Actors
