Minor Charismatic Leadership International minor programme starting September 2009 At the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht

Examples of charismatic leaders: In 1996, Gates predicted the growth of broadband Internet and related opportunities, for example sharing video and videoconferencing. Einstein was able to imagine the relationship between space and time. He got inspired for his theory of relativity by imagining that he was "sitting on a beam flying through the universe with the speed of light”.

Other charismatic leaders: Despite the injustice of his sentence and longstay inprisonement, Mandela held on to his principles such as justice, tolerance and equality. This enabled him to preach his policy of peace as the President of South- Africa to the white minority that had suppressed and humiliated him. Kennedy formulated the vision to put man on the moon within 10 years. This vision proved such an inspiration that in 1969, 8 years after his death, the first man set foot on the moon.

The minor Charismatic Leadership starts in September 2009 and

lasts one semester (20 weeks). Students are expected to be available

Fulltime. This minor is worth 30 ECs.

leadership, parallel to the learning group sessions

without supervision

In autumn, after the holidays, a 3 day “retraite” will be organised students

In January a closing leadership conference will be organised by students

What (Dutch) students say about the minor Choosing the minor charismatisch leiderschap: A SMART decision. Pleasant, creative teaching method and application of the study material. I did not expect the course – personal growth – to be so valuable. I consider it very useful that students are confronted with themselves during the sessions personal growth. Recommendation to future students: In first instance students will wonder what they got themselves into. That’s what I thought too. I can now say from my own experience that it was worthwhile to be seriously involved in the topic of this minor. You don’t know what you are missing if you don’t choose this minor then you will regret it.

Some more reaction of (Dutch) students I want to say that it is hard work, but it is certainly worthwhile. Once I started the minor, I was a little shocked…. In any case a minor you learn from and which is really worthwhile. For the topic of personal growth you have to be open and not afraid to do so. It might not be for everyone. The subjects of the minor fit seamlessly. Do you want to know all the facets of leadership? Coaching? Being a leader? Then you first need to understand the essence: yourself! When I look back at the start of the minor, I ask myself whether I had made the right choice. I had the idea that it would be quite soft. And I did not see the use for yoga exercises. Now I am very glad that I stayed and learned what is important for me. I want to emphasise that this is not a choice for six months easy study points. The minor can change your way of life. Your attitude is essential!
