  8. 8. Data Manager Overview DM Package is a BPC module that helps managing the data moving in and out of applications, as well as to copy or move data within and across applications Supports mapping and complex transformations of data BPC is delivered with a set of packages to meet many data management needs BPC can be used to load data system to system or via flat files Accessed from Excel via ‘Manage Data’
  9. 9. Logic TypesIn BPC you can use four different types of logic: Worksheet Logic - local calculations that are worksheet-specific. Dimension Member Logic - formulas that are dimension member-specific, across applications, that are calculated on-the-fly. Some Dimension Member formulas are delivered. You can add your own as well. Script Logic - application-specific calculations that run as you specify, either automatically after every data send, or scheduled and/or run manually. Business Rules - parameter-based logic that is used for legal and management consolidations.
  10. 10. Allocation Engine: Overview With the help of the allocation engine we want to distribute data from one sender to several receivers. This feature is very often used in Planning as a top-down scenario. Example: simple allocation script that spreads evenly a yearly UNITS entered on 2004_Input to all months of 2004 *RUNALLOCATION *FACTOR = 1 / COUNT *DIM ACCOUNT WHAT = UNITS; WHERE = <<< *DIM TIME WHAT = 2004_INPUT; WHERE = BAS(2004.TOTAL) *ENDALLOCATION
  11. 11. New Concepts in a BPF
  12. 12. Drill through – Introduction Drill – through is an interface for Excel feature that allows detailed data from an external source to be viewed by clicking the Drill – through option from the Action Pane from a cell in a report for which a drill-through has been defined An administrator must configure drill-through for the cell in order to see its data Drill-through is available on any cell that contains an EvDRE formula. In BPC MS platform, drill-through is also available on cells containing EvGTS and EvGET You can drill through to the following types of data sources
  13. 13. Validations Overview “Validations” are designed to prevent “incorrect” records being saved to the cube. What is deemed an “incorrect” record needs to be controlled by the customer. An example of an incorrect record is one where you have specified an intercompany account, but left the Trading Partner dimension empty. The Validations introduce the concept of the “Driver Dimension”. The driver dimension is the dimension in each application that the validation rules will be created from. In most cases, it is the Account dimension, but it can be any dimension.
  14. 14. What Is Concurrency Locking? This process is initiated only when the user tries to save the data. Even if there is one record in the selected data region that is locked by another data lock anywhere in the Business Intelligence (BI) system, the whole request is not saved. If the lock is obtained, then the delta records are saved. If the request fails, it can be resubmitted and if successful in obtaining the lock, the request is then saved. This process is also done for each data package Timing of when locks are obtained: In SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, locks are obtained only during the write-back process. A lock can not be persisted at the time of read.
