  • What is Positive Discipline? Did you know that the word discipline actually means to teach; it is synonymous with instruction. But there is a problem.
  • The problem is that when we ask non-educators to define discipline the answer is always the same: “Discipline means punishment”
  • You see Punishment promotes fear and shame and it is often negative, threatening, and blaming
  • Since there are so many misconceptions about the term discipline and a focus on punishment, we prefer the term “child guidance” with a focus on teaching and learning.
  • DoctorLynn Staley is a professor of Early Childhood Education in the department of Elementary Education at Ball State University she discusses the topic of positive discipline with a focus on the classroom in her book, “Nurturing Positive Behaviors In Your Classroom” Make sure to download the first chapter for free which focuses on the subject of positive child discipline and guidance at www.positiveclassroombehavior.com or click the link below this Youtube video to visit our website.
