Cannes Lions really kicked-off on Monday, generating over 25,300 online conversations – over 3,300 more than the entire weekend period. This puts online conversations averages at over 1,100 per hour. Activity peaked at around 3pm local time as film director Spike Jonze took to the stage alongside SapientNitro to talk about the crossover between technology and storytelling – reaffirming established themes from this year’s festival around the power of celebrity and the interest in storytelling.

Monday buzz: Key findings • Cannes Lions really kicked-off on Monday, generating 25,307 online conversations – 3,325 more than over the entire weekend • Spike Jonze and SapientNitro’s discussion on storytelling and technology caused a peak in activity of over 2,100 mentions of #CannesLions in just one hour • Ogilvy’s domination in the most talked about brand stakes continued thanks to its award success and ongoing well-executed social strategy, generating over 5,500 mentions throughout the day • While ‘creativity’, ‘advertising’ and ‘storytelling’ remained the top three buzz words, ‘mobile’ jumped into fourth place following discussions around the rise of mobile as the dominant screen for creativity

Advertising’s 792 and Storytelling’s 714 mentions rounded off a familiar top three buzz words. Most Mentioned Celebrities at Cannes Lions 2014: 16.06.14 (1am CET) – 16.06.14 (11.59pm CET) Sir Patrick Stewart continued to top the charts of the most mentioned celebrities, following his appearance alongside Twitter on Sunday. Kanye West, who was only announced as a speaker yesterday, also drew significant buzz from social media. The news that he will be presenting alongside the likes of Spotify and Translation on the link between digital progress and cultural evolution fired him into second place.
