Environmental • Ink-jet is in general a environmentally friendly process, but a few problems remain: Use of solvents can be a problem Waterbased inks use a lot of energy for drying (coverage dependent) • Deinking is currently biggest issue Recyclability will be important benchmark for print processes - Driven by end user perception and potential regulations - “Junk mail” and related products will be under special scrutiny Ink-jet is currently not deinkable with standard flotation process - Pigment waterbased inks with bonding agent (HP) had successful trials - Paper recycling plants are still reluctant to change existing processes Inkjet vendors are working technical solutions Situation is exploited by certain pressure groups © 2009 InfoTrends, Inc. www.infotrends.com 12
