    • Long ago the church believed that humanity was created by a higher power.

    • Many bible stories, such as Adam and Eve, tell of this creation
  • Changing Ideas
    • The church’s theory was accepted until Charles Darwin came along
  • Changing Ideas
    • Darwin published his theory of evolution in a book called “The Origin of Species”. It was released in 1859.

    • The theory of evolution states that everything is related

    • Under the theory of evolution, genetic mutations occur and the beneficial changes are preserved

    • These changes transfer to new creatures, who adapt and pass new traits on. The Polar Bear adapted to the cold by growing fur.

    • Humans are related to Monkeys. Early primates evolved and adapted to stand fully on two feet and eventually became modern Humans.

    • Recently the church has accepted aspects of the theory of evolution. They believe in evolution aided by a higher power, and believe everyone's soul is the work of a higher power.
